Maybe part of the deal with EA was GOG had to give them the soul of the company. GOG releases a game at 5.99 or 9.99 then make you pay $10000 for it to be complete.
I don't get it. Why is there even the expectation that we'd get the expansions included?
Gotta say, Crusader really is fantastic. I remember it from back when it was released, and it's still that cool.

Dungeon keeper, still good. Can't wait to play Alpha Centauri, have it bought, will be on it soon. This is the best deal GOG ever made!

anyway, best of luck with your boycott. Stand up to the man, and all that.

See, I don't get these reactions. You want incomplete versions of games? Okay, buy them. Your dollar, your vote. Me? I don't. It's not about EA hate. I'm not paying for a version of a game that I don't want. Is it really such a difficult concept?

Navagon: Ah yes, those incredibly successful boycotts that gamers with endless staying power manage to stick to so effortlessly.
I've been doing pretty well with my various boycotts. The main problem is that there's so few that do that it's more like punishing myself than effecting any sort of change.

Plus, it's not like I can get the same game from somebody else in most cases, which unfortunately leads to companies having no idea whether or not I'm boycotting or why.

That doesn't sound like a usual contract rider. :P
Bit OTT and I really don't want to encourage GOG to bring in a higher price point or start charging extra for expansions... these are old games, they've done their RRP commercial sales, old games shouldn't be costing more than pocket money. That said GOG has long advertised itself on being a collectors website and offering the best editions with plenty of extras (something that seems to have vanished from the site recently.) So I don't see that it's unfair to expect these things.

They're not incomplete versions, they're complete copies of the games, they just don't have the expansion packs. This isn't like in previous threads where people were trying to claim that patches weren't a part of TW2, expansions are like DLC, not a part of the game.

Then simply don't. Campaigning for a boycott is a whole different kettle of fish to voting with your wallet.

saramakos: If we DO boycott EA then what message will they take from it? Knowing EA they won't think "Oh we need to add the expansions" they will think "See? It is not cost effective to release our old games DRM free" or something equally daft unfortunately.
That would be why I created the thread: To add a vocal component to my vote so that the reason is understood. I'm not going to lap up whatever scraps EA throws at us out of some kind of misguided gratitude for EA being here at all.

It doesn't make sense to not buy, say Crusader, because Privateer doesn't have its expansion.

Darling_Jimmy: Oy vey.

hedwards: Indeed, just for this thread, I'm buying both Crusader and Alpha Centauri.
I had already bought SMAC and Dungeon Keeper before reading this thread, but now I think I'll have to buy Crusader and maybe Privateer as well.

Oh I don't know. Ubisoft saw quite a hefty reduction in their profit margins when they introduced UbiDRM. So I don't think you're alone by any means. There are definitely things I won't buy and places I won't buy from. But I just avoid shouting my mouth off about my oh so incredibly important boycotts.
Oy hey, a boycott. Boy, i do love these.

Somehow i get the feeling i'm doing it wrong though.

Somebody should totally create a boycott the boycott thread. I'm sure there are other people in need of rationalization for buying the games.
