Is game-spy 100% necessary? (I know its easier)

If so can you please explain how, tried it this tonight with Druidshinobi and had no luck.
This question / problem has been solved by Sielleimage
after some research im told it is built in. Anyone confirm?
Yup built in. I haven't played it since early last year so I don't remember much about how to play with friends. I just remember that latency blows.

I can confirm that Gamespy is 100% required for "internet" multi-player. If you're on a local lan it doesn't matter (or if it's using it it's completely in the background). So using something like hamachi should bypass it.

And on that note, it is a TON of mindless fun multi-player.

You'll want to use Game Ranger for multiplayer. You will see way more people on it and you won't have to mess with port forwarding.
Awesome, thanks for clearing that up guys.

I only use it to play with people I know so gamespy will suffice
Try using Gameranger. i think its the only way to play it cross-platform with mac users(f you care).

I don't know if this uses a LAN workaround or if it even matters for stats.
