anjohl: Uncanny Valley 101 right there. Humans have a quirky tendancy to find things which try to look like something else to actually look very jarringly UNLIKE it as it starts to strive for a closer match. Watch Beowulf, and you will understand.

I haven't seen many instances of uncanny valley in games as they're typically too far from realistic for that to be true. It's more that they're trying to be realistic by making everything as bland as they can. That's what deters me.
Given the amount of potential there now is for highly stylised graphics, I see no reason for every game out there to mindlessly strive for realism even when the gameplay is wholly unrealistic by nature. Graphics can be detailed without being 'photo real'.
So is this game worth it, or is it a half-ass dumbed down console game for the kiddies? I'm really curious about this one, really willing to get it but I'm afraid it's easy and just will get boring after a few hours. I love Diablo 2 and the idea of blending a hack and slash with an FPS sounds awesome to me. Can anyone give me their opinion? Preferably a PC gamer? :)

The PC version isn't out yet.
Preloaded from Steam and waiting to unlock. :D

michaelleung: YES, YES, YES, YES! Steam Borderlands prepurchasers, if you haven't already, go and preload the game now!

Bah! Just 30 mins till the countdown should have expired and -- surprise! -- the release date is pushed back to the 30 th. I *knew* it. This is why I should never pre-order on Steam.

Same thing happened for me too. EPIC FAIL.
Yup, apparently only the US will get to play it today on Steam >_<.
I come home and I see it's delayed 3 days because they "mistakingly" put the wrong release date on the game page. Which is really funny considering South America is still America and we don't get it, but Canada isn't US and they get it.
I'm really wanting to get a refund but I'll just wait it out.

I've been playing it on the PS3 and having a blast with it. The only complaint I have about it thus far is the amount of legwork needed to get around. That and the skags are REALLY getting old.

Oh crap, just woke up and saw that. Unbelievable.
It's really good.

Once you reach the Dahl Highlands (after finishing off main quests in the 1st area) you get the ability to fast travel between those pylons that let you change your appearance. It improves things dramatically. Also, skags largely disappear after the 1st area too in favor of much more annoying wildlife.
I want this so badly. My PC doens't even meet the minimum however...I guess BTT my PC meets the requirements, it will be $15-$20.
I am glad Gearbox has a hit, they really deserve it.

Yeah, game is a hit game but pirates can play since Sunday but we Steam users are waiting to play on Friday, thanks 2K Games and Gearbox... Ah I forgot we are Rest Of The World....
Heh, hilarious: Aussie version of Borderland on Steam is 'mistakenly' censored.
