A few days ago 3D realms/Interceptor Entertain announced their new IP Bombshell. An action RPG (think Diablo/Torchlight with guns) where you play a scantly clad woman with a robotic arm and a bad attitude.
And people got angry. (not that people being angry on the internet is anything new)

There were a bunch of reasons for this. The big one being that 3D realms/Interceptor had announced a new Duke Nukem game that would be an action RPG in the vain of Diablo/Torchlight. Then Gearbox reminded 3D realm that they had sold the rights to make Duke Nukem games to them exclusively in the form of a lawsuit (which I believe is still on-going). Yeah Apogee really dropped the ball here. How do you forget that you sold your character to another company? But should our disappointment turn into hate for what we got instead?

Some people don't like the character. It's true the snarky, grouchy battle hardened female has been done to death. Bombshell was meant to be a character in Duke Nukem Forever and was inspired by Pamela Anderson's character from the film Barbed-Wire (not a good film from all I've heard). She sure looks like she came out of the 90's (A 90's teen's scrapbook to be honest). But Apogee/Interceptor aren't known for poring Nolanesque seriousness into things. Should we be so serious?

And lastly people complain about the graphics....... urrr.............. uuurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I might regret not going into this later but for now I just say I think both gamers and developers would have it much better if both stopped caring soooo ****ing much about graphics!
If I were a game critic I'd make a point of never talking about graphic to try and kill this industry rotting obsession with graphics.

Here are links to the trailer and an Interceptor staff member talking about the game.

So what do you think of this news? it's sad we're not getting a new duke game but Interceptor couldn't just wait for years in the hope of getting the IP back someday. They had to do something and I for one I'm glad that we're still getting a gun-focused action RPG. While not as great as I'd hoped for Rise of the Triad 2013 was a good game an it's nice to know that there's a studio out there this dedicated to old-school action. But I seem to be the only one looking forward to this game. Well lets see what you think. leave your comment s below.

Thanks.

Barb Wire was a comic before it was a movie.

Foxhack: Barb Wire was a comic before it was a movie.
Yeah, but in the interview the man from Interceptor said the idea came whilst watching the movie.
GOG must seriously be like bizarro internet, from the previous threads about this the reaction here has been overall positive, even with those concerns brought up.

I guess that's why I enjoy the GOG forums.
I don't think a lot about it either way. I'm not the least bit disappointed about a Duke game drying up, and there's no real information about this new one. The trailer and the interview are not very convincing. If it's an action game first and foremost, it might be fun. If it's another left-click-for-loot game, I'll skip it. I'm sure it'd be lovely, but I'm pretty well tired of those.

I didn't know people were actually angry about this.

Some people cry too much for no good reason. Such people should be ignored.
I don't know what to think of this game, because the teaser trailer doesn't show ANYTHING about the game. All I see is a lame character and setting done to death... and everything done with a clunky animation done in CGI that looks like from the early 2000's... LOL (:P)

If game developers are trying to present theirs games to the world, this is exactly how it should NEVER be done.

The way I understand the situation is that when 3Drealms sold the Duke IP Gearbox was going to let them finish one last DN title but when 3Drealms changed the name of the game they were working on Gearbox took it as a whole other project so GB unleashed the lawyers upon 3dR so 3DR needing to not to lose all the work done already, swapped out Duke for Shelly.
Eh, I don't think this affects me at all. I'm not a fan of Duke, anyway. Besides, I'm waiting for Sattelite Reign!

Done to death? I can only think of one other sci fi top-down ARPG off the top of my head (space siege). If it was fantasy I'd agree, but this is hardly 'done to death'. It's downright refreshing in a genre where diablo and torchlight reign supreme.
Serious question: what would Duke bring to this sort of game? Some quips here and there, a specific character appearance, and a name. Oh, and some enemies brought back from the past. Beyond that, what's the difference between having us play as Duke Nukem or Daisy Duke?
So it's basically just CGI and no actual gameplay? What kind of game is it? An FPS or 3PS?

Greed: Black Border

But yes, ARPG's in SciFi settings is very welcome.

Other than that - welcome to the interwebs? Personally I will not judge a game before it is completed.
I would've thought there would have been joint access to the Duke character. Kind shitty for Gearbox to run off with it to make shitty games with.

Here's something I found that was interesting: 3D Realms office tour in Denmark.

The internet will complain about anything. ANYTHING. My best advice is not to take it too seriously. :D

As for the game itself, I am a bit negatively biased because Interceptor really fucked up the new Rise of the Triad's optimization. Other than that, I will wait and see what it has to offer.
