Gundato: Now, that being said, if all the content was ready at launch: It shouldn't be premium.
If all the content wasn't available at launch, you can avoid dividing the player-base by including it in a patch.

Not if the patch is unavoidable, several games I've played required you to download the core components of the DLC (with things like rank upgrades, weapon mods and other things that would apply across all multiplayer modes) as a patch and the paid content just downloads the physical models and the actual NEW content
I'm not upset about having to download anything, or not having to download anything, but the fact that they had this DLC done, and put on disk, and chose deliberately to charge people for content they already bought, that's what's wrong.

Well, that is what I meant. You put all the stuff that everyone needs in the patch, and then let people pay to unlock.
Honestly, the Unreal Engine has a lot of flaws. Its netcode tends to be worse than its competitors (id Tech 3 and Source), it really doesn't support penetration/shooting through walls (the additive nature of the geometry), and everyone needs to have all (meaningful) content. Don't get me wrong, I like the Unreal Engine, but I just don't understand how it got so popular.
Its probably cheap and easy, thats how a lot of things get popular; VHS, junk food, that blonde girl from your high school class...

Yep totally agree.... glad I stuck to my guns and didnt buy it....
Although had I got it I coulda blown it up..... :(
Not really surprised by this at all; if memory serves there area already several games that have basically done the same thing. Just one of several reasons why any game with planned DLC at release gets a pass from me until I get a chance to see how the DLC all shakes out (and likely doesn't get bought until some kind of GOTY edition that includes all the released content and a greatly reduced price).

chautemoc: Explanation:
"The way our engine and game structure works is that people need to have the exact same content for people to play together," 2K Community Manager Elizabeth Tobey writes in the forums. "One of the challenges with post launch content for MP is that it can split the player base, and we want to avoid that whenever possible. For this content, creating the DLC package the way we did allowed for us to not split the player base – so whether you purchase the new content or not, you can still play with your friends."
"I know some of you have strong beliefs about DLC, and I'm not here to sway your opinion or convince you to buy our stuff - if you like what we're offering, I hope you get it and enjoy it. If it's not your speed, enjoy BioShock 2 as we released it."
Tobey does add if you don't like it, they welcome your opinion as "that can be more helpful than people who are really excited, because you help tell [them] what to fix and do better."

I call bullshit. Basically you're paying for unlockables. Call it what you want, but back in the day if you see your buddies playing with a cool new character model in a multiplayer match, you know that you just have to play the game more to be able to unlock it for yourself. That's how this is with Bioshock 2. You're paying to unlock content, plain and simple.
That's why I don't get why there's so much hate for Steam and Valve. TF2 and the L4D games are getting extra modes and updates months after release for absolutely no extra charge. Actual legit DLC for free. Admittedly TF2 and L4D1 were a little barebones when they first launched, but considering their price point, the updates upon updates gives players way more value than their money's worth over the months.
I never buy any DLC. There are too many other good games for me to care to pay anything extra for something I don't even own.
The Midway and MUA2 ruckus on LIVE and PSN were enough to convince me to stay away forever or until the model of ownership changes.
I never bought Bioshock 2 since I felt that the first game didn't NEED a sequel, I thought everything was explained and wrapped up quite well. That, combined with the fact Irrational didn't make it, was reason enough not to buy it.
This is just another reason to tack onto the list.

Much of the original team made it, they're just under a different name for the sequel.

lukaszthegreat: eh. not surprised at all. The era where gaming was innocent and made by people who loved that and cared about it is gone.

The era still lives on the Indie games. Hopefully on the Iranian game industry (Garshasp) aswell.

I was under the impression that Irrational Games under the direction of Ken Levine were who were primarily the ones who wrote and made Bioshock.

Wraith: I was under the impression that Irrational Games under the direction of Ken Levine were who were primarily the ones who wrote and made Bioshock.

Ken Levine was the lead designer. On BioShock 2 he served a creative consultant (I read this somewhere, though I've just now read conflicting information). But (my mistake here), five of the team members (presumably core) moved over from Irrational (later renamed 2K Boston).
KL: BioShock 2 wasn't the right thing for 2K Boston; it was the right thing for 2K Marin. After BioShock, 2K wanted to grow the company by starting a new studio in Marin, and they asked if it could be seeded with some 2K Boston and 2K Australia developers. They said, "Dude, are you cool with that?" I understood what they were trying to do, so I said, "Sure." All in all, five smart folks from 2K Boston are now at 2K Marin. (via)
I guess in a sense that makes him creative consultant though haha.
Just noticed in that interview he mentions GOG! And GOG mentioned previously they were talking to him about a deal. Only a matter of time before we see System Shock. :)

I guess I just don't consider 5 people to be "most of the original team" team that made it. :P
Still, maybe I'll play it after it goes on PS3's "Classic" collection, but I'm not exactly rushing out to play it. IMO, the story of Andrew Ryan and Rapture ended with that Bathysphere emerging in daylight.
