briandamage: Fade to Black is a more modern DOS game so it runs very slowly in DOSbox for me but maybe I need to tweak my CPU settings.

kalirion: Yes, you probably do, unless you're running on a really weak system. If you can run any Build engine game (Duke 3d, Blood, etc) smoothly at 640x480, Fade to Black shouldn't be more demanding.

First settings to try modifying:
core=dynamic
cycles=max
I actually have better luck using static numbers rather than dynamic. I sometimes get audio glitches when I use dynamic core or auto cycles. Thanks for the advice though - that's exactly the sort of settings I had in mind.
You must really be a passionate win 95-98 gamer to consider keeping an old machine running just for this purpose. For instance I have a little ancient beast running win98se but I haven't started it in ages. And because there is no room in the house I had to retire it in the attic. For me this is not an option. My hope is in GoG and VMware.
