Detlik: Thanks picking up Med2 + expansion and now I cant decide if I should take Napoleon or Empire....what do you think?

Phc7006: The best edition out there is the GOTY. You get both Napoleon and Empire, their respective expansions Peninsular campaign and Warpath and all the dlc. And if you look around a bit you'll find it for less than Napoleon or the complete empire.

Otherwise, Napoleon is better than Empire but shorter. Empire on the other hand offers more replayability.

edit : for the Goty

current best offers imo

- amazon.co.uk : 13.99 GBP + delivery
- gamesplanet.com , UK site, 24.99 GBP
This. Napoleon was superior in gameplay, and shogun builds on that. But there's not grand campaign. So Empire is better if you want something more substantial, unless you get Napoleon with some DLC (Peninsular Campaign is quite good)

ShmenonPie: Rome. Rome is still by far the best balance between features and streamlined, fun gameplay.

(It's worth noting that I play Grand Campaigns and auto-resolve battles, so this is only a valid verdict for the campaign modes.)
CRIME!!!

Hahaha dw, I like the battles a bit better, but TW can be played as three games really, so it appeals to quite a few people

If you don't play the battles in Rome then you are missing out on how overpowered all the cavalry (especially late game Roman cavalry) is. Seriously, you could just charge spears with heavy cav and destroy them. It was sort of an issue. Fun, but an issue.

I did love Rome though. I got tons of play time out of it, but I have done that with all of the Total War games.
Having played all of them up to M2TW, I also think Rome is the best.

The problem is that the strategic game seems to be getting more complex over time. I don't see that as being necessarily good, as I'm not currently a fan of 4X games. Having to decide between military strongholds or urban centers was actually an annoyance for me.
Bought Napoleon with sale and I LOVE IT thanks a lot guys :) (got medieval from d2d with expansion for 6 dollars)
