timppu: For some reason I find most LucasArts' games MT-32 music quite bland and uninteresting, even though everyone else seems to remember to mention e.g. Monkey Island 2. The music in LucasArts MT-32 games is ok IMHO, but that's all.
Glad I'm not the only one who thinks so. MI2 is one of the games where I actually prefer adlib/soundblaster.

EDIT: HAH, ninja'd myself by almost a year. Didn't notice it was a necro.

timppu: Many Ocean games, like Lethal Weapon (!!!), TFX (!!!), Inferno (!!!) Robocop 3 etc. Here's one in-game tune from TFX:

Ok, I just noticed this topic is a year old but I still have to reply. I never heard of TFX, but that song is fucking awesome!
Yes TFX is great.... actually just about anyt Roland music by Barry Leitch is great :-)
BTW: He used a LAPC-I... but i dont know if the extra sounds were ever used by him?
Since Youtube is full of only Sierra and LucasArts MT-32 examples but missing lots of other less known MT-32 games (which I've also mentioned in this thread), I'm now in a process of trying to record some myself. At least then I can add to Youtube examples that _I_ think are the bestest, even if no one else cares. :)

First problem: I realized that laptops don't have line-in. :) Not sure if using the mic input (without using an actual mic) would work just as well, but probably I'll try to do the recording on my old desktop PC which is running Windows XP and Linux Mint.

I recall trying some recording long time ago on Windows XP, but for some reason its Sound Recorder wouldn't record more than for a couple of seconds? If that is still the case, I hope Linux has better options for recording audio coming to line-in. Or then I have to find some other Windows XP compatible recording software, maybe Audacity?

Second "issue" is that I'm still contemplating whether I should try the recording from my real Roland CM-32L, or just use Munt emulator. Since I go through all this trouble, maybe I want to do it properly from the real thing, even if one wouldn't necessarily hear the difference.

Currently the CM-32L is connected to an ancient Pentium-133 machine with which I haven't used it previously, so first I have to try whether it works at all with it. If not, another option is to use the USB-to-MIDI cable I bought two years ago to be able to use CM-32L with modern PCs, but I've not used that converter before this. Hope it works.

Or, does someone know if it is possible to record Munt output digitally to a file within the same computer, without having to use any analog audio cables or anything between computers? That would be easiest of course, even if the sound is coming "only" from Munt.

I probably won't try to create any proper gameplay videos with FRAPS or anything (especially if I run the games on the Pentium 133), maybe just add some still pictures from the games to the videos.

Oh well, here goes nothing...

If your laptop has a mic plugin, you can record without an actual mic provided you have the cord for line-in recording. That's how I use my Sound Canvas and MT-32 on my laptop for DOS games that support it, plug it in and enable the listen feature for the external mic, and prepare to listen to MIDI greatness.

Under XP you should have no problems with recording ANY sound played on the same computer. So if munt plays music - sound recorder records it. Make sure if sound source 'What you hear' selected.

EDIT:
Double click on speaker icon, options, properties, recording 'what you hear' and than in recording control select 'what you hear'.

Thanks, just as I hoped then. Do you know if this is different in Win7 and Win8?

I think I still need to run some tests between the real CM-32L, and Munt with CM-32L ROMs, whether there is any real reason to try to record from the real thing.

Sorry, but I don't know that.
I _finally_ added a bunch of Roland MT-32/CM-32L game music videos to Youtube which maybe haven't received as much exposure there before. I was first going to record them from my CM-32L unit, but decided to go with Munt (with CM-32L ROMs) as it was so much easier, the sound quality probably ended up being better as I didn't have to use any extra cables, and frankly I think Munt 1.2.0 Roland emulation is near perfect nowadays. At least I can't say I hear much of a difference to the real thing.
