Power up your spaceship and watch as the music boosts your firepower. Unleash hell on the enemy ships when you max out with weapon pickups!
Beat Hazard seamlessly mixes the love of gaming and music. Together they become greater than the sum of their parts."
This just came up new on Steam. It looks intriguing, but when I read the "GAMEPLAY POWERED BY YOUR MUSIC!" I immediately thought audiosurf. But from the screens, it looks a bit like Geometry Wars.
Well anyway, it's only £5.24 at the moment.
Edit: This was in no way an attempt to PR or whatever. Just felt like making a thread and inform people... I am lonely.

Certainly has plenty of eyecandy. Plus Europe is not getting shafted for once as the price is €5.24. I may pick this up tomorrow.
I will buy Shatter instead of this I think. But I will buy this in future if it gets good reviews and a demo.
Yeah, definitely needs at least a demo before I'll even consider it. That's what got me to buy Audiosurf, so if Beat Hazard is at least as good as that in a demo, I'll definitely get it.
I see no links..
The few videos I've seen on youtube look interesting, but the limited range of controller support, occasional crashes*, and lack of support for pretty much anything other than mp3 is a deal-breaker for me. Apparently, the file browser isn't all that good either. Hopefully they patch that stuff.
*One apparently confirmed cause of crashing is opening a directory with video files in it.

Tell us all about it.
Bought it yesterday. Its good fun although it has crashed acouple of times when loading mp3's but when you try the same mp3 again it works.
It is fun to play although have some headache tablets at the ready as the effects leave your eyes going crazy.
Still i would recommend this to people who enjoy a quick blast of pure adrenaline shooting and for the price it is well worth it and also by buying this your supporting the indie games companies who are 100% better than the bigger firms i am looking at you Ubisoft
How's the shooter part of it? Solid? I like games whereby your ship has a small core, so it doesn't register as you being hit should the bullet touch the wing, but instead passes through harmlessly. Sort of like that arcade game Strikers 1945, where the only way to get your ship destroyed is if it touches an invisible dot in the center.

It's awesome, but with a small amount of possible lives on a song, it's arguable that you shouldn't need more than a handful of lives anyway because a song shouldn't be much more than four or five minutes, but thereare whoppers out there.
I'm not exactly sure how the music effects the game other than giving you power ups at certain points and things like that... I have trouble beating Mac the Knife but had little problems playing Thousand by Moby... it could just be a testament to my skills with this genre though.

You don't really have bullets coming at you in this game, it's a wee bit more like geometry wars than a bullet hell.

A patch has been released, primarily adding FLAC and OGG support, along with other little fixes and additions.
Still hoping for additional controller support.

I love this game oh so very much! <3
That looks like fun but shooter space games piss me off... R-Type made me break my gameboy... and i the only space top down shooter i ever liked was asteroid.... because if you died its your fault, i hate the dodge avoid memorize pattern of shots part of most space shooters.. is this like that?
