I was just gifted Fortune Summoners, a DRM free game that comes directly from GG. I want to make a couple backup copies of the game on an external HDD and flash drive. GOG is super easy to do but not sure how to do it with GG. Any help would be appreciated. :)

Wouldn't it be more helpful to contact GamersGate instead of us? Because you know...we're not in GamersGate. We're in GOG.

I understand but I saw a lot of people posting about GG and whatnot here so figured it was okay. Didn't realize GG had a forum until just now.

Ok, have you downloaded the game yet? There is a particular trick to backing up GG games.

In full:
1. Download the GG downloader for the game, the link to this is in your account.
2. Run the downloader and let it download.
3. When it gets to the stage where the installer has started up, ignore the installer (don't progress through the installation, just leave the installer waiting).
4. Open the task manager.
5. Go to the processes tab and find the downloader in the list and end the task.
6. Go back to the installer and exit it.
7. Go into the folder that the downloader downloaded the files into and check the installer works.
8. Backup the folder.

Thank you much. Yes, I did already download and install it. Someone told me to select to keep the GamersGate Temp Files (which I did, fortunately) and then just copy and paste that into my HDD so at this point, I will try that being I already d/l and installed.

Just copying the temp folder isn't actually enough (the backup will require online activation). To get a proper DRM-free backup, you have to do the thing where you kill the downloader process with the task manager while the installer is open. Otherwise, the downloader encrypts the files.

Okay. I suppose I'll try redownloading it that way. Thank you!

No need to redownload. If you kept the encrypted file (i.e. it's not a recognizable exe file) just run the downloader again, from where it was before. It should recognize the file and decrypt it. Once that happens, it should start up the installation. Then you can do as SirPrimalform suggests. Alternatively, I think it's usually sufficient to just go and copy the unencrypted installer exe while the setup installation is waiting, without needing to kill the downloader process. But they should both work just the same.

Yeah I found out you really don't need to kill the downloader file unless you want the DRM free version on your PC. Otherwise, you can just copy and paste it to the external storage device. I went ahead and uninstalled and did the whole redownload anyways.

Thank you much everyone!

For future reference, you don't have to uninstall. The game itself, if DRM-free, is permanently DRM-free. It's the installer that isn't and is encrypted by GG's downloader.

After it finishes downloading and the setup screen pops up, go into your Download folder and copy/paste the setup.exe file to another folder. Now cancel the setup screen and make sure to select keep temp file. Now go to where you copied the setup.exe file and copy/paste back into the Download folder and rename the folder to the name of the game.

Now you can copy the Game folder to your external HD or DVDR.
