Currently installing Sid Meiers Alpha Centauri I purchased last night, and got a warning about idp.trojan something or other.

It's most likely a false positive. AVG is great at picking up false positives, especially in GOG games (there have already been many threads about the same issue and in all of them AVG was involved)
Just one advice: stay away from AVG. There are better free AVs out there such as Avast and Avira.

AVG free works great for me but then I don't have an email account and no one uses the OS but me so I'm able to turn off most of the crap that would 'false positive' everything I do. If you actually have a life and use your PC for things other than hanging out in here and playing Postal then I'd take Neobr10's advice.
