BoxOfSnoo: A little to far-fetched to consider "Up" as a serious dramatic movie, I suppose...

TheCheese33: At least Up took home an award that wasn't animated-only, Best Original Score!

I know, and it was stunning. I like the quote from here: "With Michael Giacchino's music, I could have watched a werewolf attacking a nun and found it moving."
You have to watch that sequence a few times (which is tough to do) just to hear what the music does to you.
I think "Up" was incredibly brave for its audience and supremely artistic. We skipped Transformers 2 to go to this and I am SO THANKFUL for that wise choice.
Eh, it's just the golden globe awards. The Oscars is where Avatar will lose, except maybe for original score or art direction. Action movies always do poorly at the Oscars.
What a joke... It's really rewarding a commercial success instead of an artistic one. Well I guess it's what Golden Globes are meant to...

Unless, of course, 3D is the Academy's Cause of the Year, in which movies dealing with a specific issue are always more favored or win more than they ought to. Sean Penn in Milk? I saw Milk, and it wasn't that great. "It's Hard out Here For a Pimp"? Fuck you Academy!
I will add my 2 cents that all awards are BS. Golden Globe, CMA, all others I don't want to name all are messed up and fake as plastic boobies.
Avatar = Pocahontas
