Hey all

Finally got round to installing AC:B

Why do I need a ubi account and be logged in to invest in a shop exactly?
This question / problem has been solved by RoninRantimage
I assume you're talking about the PC version because you don't have to be logged in on the PS3 version.

It could be copy protection or it could be one of those asinine cloud thingies that's there to control copies.
Because they own your ass!

.. and mine too. It's a good game, but that probe hurts.
So if I wanna invest in stores I gotta get anal probed by ubisoft....

Damn.

What does it actually allow you to do?

Yes Hedwards PC version. Played it a bit last night in offline mode

It means you get more money. It's the AC2 equivalent of building up your villa in Montenegro. You get a pay out every so often based on the stores, which overall surpasses the cost.

However, the game is piss easy, so it's really not worth it. You just end up with a few more achievements.
I think you're talking about UPlay, Ubisoft made it so games that utilize it can earn you points which you can save up and use to purchase/unlock content for any other game that uses UPlay points.
Actions to earn points and what they can can be spent on in the Assassin's Creed games google points me here: http://assassinscreed.wikia.com/wiki/Uplay

I was more interested in the investing in stores side of it to be honest but I have 0 interest in a stupid points system so will mark your answer as solution as it has made the decision of whether its worth subbing easy

The AC:B Uplay points include a gun capacity upgrade though I believe that the DRM is triggered by your first shop purchase and another point later on if you avoid buying a shop

It's actually because they have some global economy thing going on where it checks what other people have invested in and calculates the value & risk depending on that. It's totally pointless really and I never really noticed any difference at all. Just buy early on in the game as soon as you have the money to purchase a shop etc and focus on that for a bit and you'll soon be rolling in dosh.

Fun fact, if you didn't realise... completing all the Animus VR type missions unlocks Raiden's Ninja Suit from Metal Gear Solid 4... pointless but fun, especially having a gun holstered at your side that you can't use.
