michaelleung: That trailer totally defeats the point of ARMA 2. It's about realism and instead they have some dialogue in meh British accents about shooting each other.
For PMC? It is to be dramatic and gritty :p

Seriously though, in OFP:

You were the traditional bad boy who drives a tank (but got promoted to being a tank commander)
You were a helicopter pilot who got promoted to flying a warthog (and then escaped a POW camp by yourself :p)
You were a private who was promoted to Colonel in about 10 years

OFP/ArmA IS about being more realistic, but it has always had drama and awesome activities.

Al1: Bah, forum ate my first post, let's try this again.

As someone who really liked Operation Flashpoint, but never plays multiplayer, is there any point in getting any iteration of ArmA 1 or 2? I am quite tempted by the ArmA 1 gold pack or the ArmA 2 combined operations pack, but if the games emphasis is multiplayer, then there is no point.
I generally avoid MP and I love the games. But grab the demo to make sure you stand a snowball's chance in hell of running it.

ARMA didn't have a lot of drama, I remembered it being really realistic and left all the SHOOT HIM SHOOT HIM and cliched A-Team BS to Michael Bay and Co.
Next time I see a PC Gamer Arma event pop up I'll join up, I have both games and my memories of multiplayer OFP, Arma, and Arma II are all positive.

Thanks for the advice. ArmA has only recently come onto my radar since for the longest time I have not had a machine capable of running it. Am d/l the demo now.

Think QG may have added some more of the drama back in.

Problem with ArmA was that everything felt so lifeless (good song from the OFP soundtrack, by the way :p). No sense of character.
Just wanted to post this saying I finally had a chance to jump into the PC Gamer ARMA II events, and if you have ARMA II OA you should join up. It's the one game I can think of where even if I die or do horribly, I don't get frustrated since I'm having so much fun.

Key events from 31.October game:

- Apache teamkilling all of us since "I saw a bunch of guys in the open and thought they were hostile targets"
- 3 of us with MG's shooting down a KA-50 by hitting the tail rotor and seeing it crash into a building next to us
- Waging helicopter and A10 assaults on enemy villages with tons of AA emplacements while some of us spotted targets for bombing runs

Multiplayer really is where all the meat is in ARMA.
I've seen some of the videos that have been put up by PC Gamer...looks fun.

I may finally have to take the plunge with this sometime soon. Perhaps Christmas. :)
Did arma 2 fix the biggest problem with arma 1, the campaign being slapped together shit done at the last minute that made no sense?

Uh... no.

America's Army 3?
I don't know how good it is but when I hear Arma 2 etc, I also think of the America's Army series.

That's the last one I had watched, actually. Good stuff. :)

Now, is that using any sort of mod, or is that just standard Arma 2?

I believe PC gamer is using Operation Arrowhead AND Arma II, not just OA, There were a couple guys who couldn't play since they only had OA and not the original game. OA is kinda unique since its an expansion pack that doesnt require the original game.
1.60 patch is for ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead is very near just some lil issues to resolve :)

then all the new MP related improvements and tweaks unleash upon world :)
