how many of you guys use a mac, and how many wouldn't go near a mac to save their lives?
I don't have one, but it's good to know that if I would get one, at least some of my GOG games will work right from the bat.
I use any system I can get my hands on, including Haiku and plan9 to a lesser extent, and I've used Mac OS for longer than I've used Windows (DOS-based and NT) or Unix-likes (yes, that's Mac OS - and System as it was simply known as back then - not OS X).

The trusty old Performa 475 still works wonderfully.

Sorry, no, I'm still straight. But never say never, any of us could one day wake up bi-curious. Or "wake up dead".

Mac sucks. It does. It really does.
I used to be, but when it came time to put my old computer to sleep (and I got something like ten years of faithful service out of the thing), I decided that a PC made more sense; cheaper, can game on it, can run various programs that I want to run.

Seriously, though, good experience with the Mac I did have.

but your screen name is bad desicions! lol.
I don't have a Mac or use one, but I have one friend who is a musician, who has some awesome software for recording and manipulating his music, and at least two other friends who are artists/graphic designers who use Macs. They will all tell you that Macs are much better for this type of use than PC's. I have other friends who use Macs, and say they just plain like them better than PC's. Me personally, I grew up with a PC, and have no plans to change now. I like the lady I'm with ;)
I use a power pc mac... which doesnt seem to be supported from the two specs i looked at.
I more or less was until January of this year. Decided to go back to Windows when I was looking into getting a new laptop. I love OS X, but I'm simply not willing to pay that ridiculous Apple tax anymore. That and gaming was awfully restricted. It's gotten better for Mac users over the last few years, especially after the switch to Intel chips was complete, but the variety of games is still rather limited in comparison as to what is available for Windows. With added support like GOG did today it will continually improve, but it's still rather doubtful that it'll ever be on par.

In any case, I'm still happy for our fellow Mac users.

That Mac must be getting a bit long in the tooth by now.

I had an Apple IIGS in the late 80's, does that count? Personally, I feel like I get more for the money with a PC, but if others prefer Macs, that's fine too. The only thing that bugs me about Apple products is the zealous way some people get attached to them. Use what ever suits you best, but I see no reason to elevate an electronics company to the level of a religion.

To be fair though, that's not really because I have anything against Macs or Apple, rather a result of my distaste for unnecessary zealotry.

Personally I don't own a Mac. I don't have anything against the platform, but whenever I was looking for a new computer, the price-per-performance ratio of a custom-build PC trashed any Mac by a mile. The proposed advantages of a Mac (easy to use, good hardware compatibility, fancy design) don't mean anything to me. I'm a tinkerer, functionality is 10,000% more important to me than any design that doesn't even look that good in my opinion, and frankly I didn't find the other two advantages to be true in practice. I guess I'm just not the kind of user they are targeting.

I've regularly had employers that used Macs, so I've sat in front of several generations of them. The employers never ceased to tell me how superior the Mac platform was. But in reality, they were as easy to use as other platforms, crashed just like other platforms, and hardware support was horrible (we had to connect lots of older machinery, and the Mac drivers offered less functionality than the Windows ones, and never worked correctly). Despite all the problems, all these employers were always convinced that the problems must originate from the network router, from the non-Apple hardware, or from dumb Windows users wrecking the system, because the Macs were obviously infallible.

Thankfully, I've also met the younger generation of Mac users, who appear to be much more relaxed and open-minded. Hopefully they are welcomed likewise when they arrive here. :) There _are_ valid reasons to prefer a Mac, the fact that none of those apply to me personally doesn't mean that those reasons don't exist. :)

I dont see why it even matters, On mac you can run both windows and mac os. Within mac i used boxer so i can import all the dosbox based games off gog.com. Please don't get into a measuring contest and ruin this site, If you consider someone gay because they used a mac then you really need to fix what ever is wrong with your life because a choice of OS doesn't mean jack shit, and for the record if you think using a mac makes you better than a PC user then the steel industry could really used that rod you pull out of your ass. Both have advantages and disadvantages when it comes to software, games and compatibility, some people like a custom system, some people like the convenience of buying a computer.
I'm in the Windows/Linux group with a preference towards open systems. I use Windows because of the games, but Linux is my system.

I don't have anything against macs, I just find the cult of personality built around the product to be creepy. :/ Don't even get me started with the price of the machines...

I switched to Mac when I bought a Mac Mini some years back (2007? 2008?). I worked for a well-known game dev company at the time so I actually lugged around a PC laptop that work gave me and used that for most things. The Mac Mini was an experiment and a replacement for my wife's dead computer.

But I fell in love with it. The "aha!" moment was when I plugged in our printer. There were no prompts, no "install this driver," no nothing. I literally didn't have to DO anything, suddenly I could just print.

In 2009 when I went back to school to pursue a new career I bought a MacBook Pro. That's been my trusty companion ever since and I've used it for all the GOGs I've purchased. If something doesn't work on OS X, I just BootCamp out to Windows 7.

In a couple years when I get out of school I will probably do this:
- Build a DIY gaming PC (i.e., NOT a Mac) as a graduation present
- Get a new MacBook for my "serious" work (i.e., not gaming)

There's room for both. I used to be in the "Mac sux!" crowd, but honestly, it's all about using the right tool for the right job, imho.
