I think the main problem is, that the big pc game magazines only got a "demo" version of the game with the first part of the game. Because of that, the magazines did not reported that much about it.

PC Action (in Germany) had only a 2 page article about Witcher 2 because of that.

Trilarion: In another forum, a strategy games forum, in the general games section there is a fairly large thread about witcher 1, comparable in number of posts to threads of other PC-RPGs like Risen, Dragon Age, Oblivion and Drakensang and some people there mentioned that they liked Witcher 1 and are looking forward to Witcher 2 and at least one other mentioned that he/she didn't like Witcher 1 and probably is not playing Witcher 2.

Is this significant?
It's not insignificant.

Yes it is, in the gaming world at least. C'mon, do you expect every person on the street to be down at the corner store swapping gaming release news over malts or something? Forums and threads are the new way of tom/dick/harry spreading the word.....among other methods.
Non-GOGers are so excited about The Witcher 2 they pooped.

I think you misread Darling_J's post. He said "it's not insignificant" not that "it's not significant". :)

Darling_Jimmy: I didn't hear about the Witcher until long after joining GOG. I just have to wonder if I would have even noticed or cared about the sequel if I hadn't joined GOG. Is there significant anticipation elsewhere on the net?
Lots and lots in the right circles. The Witcher as an franchise and IP is at least as powerful as LOTR in eastern Europe for instance. The first Witcher ended up selling at least a million copies and has by now become a cult classic. I log onto any PC-centric gaming community, I usually see at least one post or thread regarding The Witcher 2 on the first page. Anyone doing a "most anticipated game of the year" roundup almost certainly mentions Witcher 2, or regret they didn't. As far as I can see, The Witcher 2 is everywhere; it has had a ton of exposure in the popular gaming press and many loud and prominent nerds and geeks won't shut up about it.
I think most people might not know what to make of it yet, because they have not played the first game. Just wait until the game is released, reviews start coming in, and word-of-mouth start to spread!

As long as CD Projekt plays their cards right and deliver what they promise, this is going to be big. Big, I tell you! ;)

Oops....brainfart.
Slightly off-topic, but I'm a GOGer and I'm not excited about The Witcher 2.

TW2 is on the Steam frontpage. But other than that there's not much going on I guess.
I never heard of the series at all until I joined gog.com...
