Linda Holmes makes an excellent point; some of the negative reviews for Scott Pilgrim are written in a way that almost sounds like they came from defensive bullies. "Dork-pandering assault"? "I have found more appealing ways to not have a life"? It seems like many critics are almost scared of the growing gamer culture. The funny thing is, I never actually ran into a real-life example of "GET OFF MY DAMN LAWN!" before I read this.
Do you think they're scared of becoming obsolete because of their lack of knowledge in a particular subject? I can't think of another reason for their burst of hostility whenever "vidja games" come into the picture.
"I have found more appealing ways to not have a life."
What a prick. I think you may have a point, Cheese. They don't understand gaming culture, so they hate it.
That article didn't tell me anything about the movie. In fact the only thing it told me was that those kind of people that didn't understand rock music is still around.
Everyone knows that. No one tries to make a story of it. Except the woman doing the review.
Not "everyone" knows that. If they did, the slurry of reviews that attack the film because the critic has contempt for the audience wouldn't exist.
So instead of mentioning the movie's contents, people attack the audience? Isn't that like saying the latest mario game is automatically a pile of shit because its going to be played by some people with a wiimote instead of a 'proper controller'?
By the way... I saw Scott Pilgrim today...
You know how you always want to watch a Kung Fu movie and your girlfriend wants to watch a romantic comedy?
Well, now you both get what you want. It was amazingly entertaining, genuinely funny, surprisingly meaningful, and packed a punch in the punch-out department.

It's more like saying Mario is shit because the people playing it are the people who are playing it.

My fault. I should have said everyone that at least try to keep up with trends in todays society and actually accept something that have been around for years as "not new" and therefore established.
"... sometimes even playing Dancing With The Stars (deal with it), in which I have mastered the cha-cha at the professional level. If you are under the impression that this makes me a "gamer" anywhere except possibly in the sun-dappled rec rooms of some very rad retirement communities, you're off your nut."
LOL @
"sun dappled rec rooms of a retirement community"
The author is great, she brings up Highlights magazine! Thanks for the link, this was some " tut-tuttin' " I didn't want to miss out on. From my understanding the movie uses video games like a literary device, like a "Don Quixote" etc, I'd imagine it compels anyone feeling unrelated to draw a line in the sand, for THEMSELVES, which the author really called some out on.
