If I'm alone:

Galaga '88
Star Wars
Silent Scope

If I'm with friends:

Sunset Riders
TMNT 2 The Arcade Game
Point Blank

Edit: The Time Crisis games were pretty badass, too. I guess so was House of the Dead. There are some pretty fun gun games out there.

Soonjai: In that case I would definily try to get an 4 Slot NeoGeo MVS Machine. Sure, the games aren´t that cheap, but at least you have the option to have different games every now and then. And you have a lot of games to chose from, a lot of really good fighting games like The Last Blade, King of Fighters or Samurai Showdown, the Metal Slug Series and even some sports / racing games like the really good Neo Drift Out.

Solei: If you just are after the games, and not are looking at authentic cartridges as collectors items, you can get aftermarket cartridges with 100 or more games. A godsend if you only have a 1-slot mvs.

Have a look here.
Didn´t know that such things are out there. And 161 semms to be almost every game for the system, or at least every game that is important. Sure, you can always go the MAME route like I did, but I just use that at home for myself and buddies and I´m not sure if he could get in trouble with the law if he chooses to built an MAMEcade for a public arcade / coffee shop buisiness, same goes for that multi cart. For home use I would get one for myself if I had an MVS, but I would not use it in a public shop unless I had something on paper from some sort of lawyer-type of person that gives me green light for using it.

I think it's safe to say that he could get into a whole heap of trouble for that. I don't know if any rights holders would actually bother going after him, but legally he'd be wide open for the mother of all lawsuits.

It is a legal 'grey zone' allright - but coinop bootlegs have been in existence and in use almost as long as the original games themselves. Take a look at arcadiabay.de, which have used games for sale, both original and bootleg pcb's.

Heck, even the pc based Sega Lindbergh and the Taito typeX1 and 2 have been bootlegged, hardware with security and software and all. Many arcades have no qualms using bootlegs. The software still runs on the hardware it was intended to.

I have been running two different versions of the yellow mvs multicarts myself, and they work without problems with all the variants of the mvs systems available. There's one special cartridge that is connected to a daughterboard which only work on single slot systems with original bios (no unibios support).

Pretty sure this doesn't count but Adam's Family Pinball.

If I can't have a pinball game why not that old 3d sega cowboy game. I can't think of the name of it at the moment.

*edit* Figured it out, Sega Time Traveller
