Vita huh? you gotta pick up Persona 4 golden, no debate about that.

I used to play PC games first. Then thought that because all my friends were swept away by the JRPG game frenzy. I thought I could get interested in that stuff. To be fair, there are a few titles like Suikoden 1 & 2. But for the most part, I just cannot bring myself down from how immersive games are like STALKER: CAll of Pripyat with the Misery Mod. After you play Fallout series and the like, you look at a JRPG and how childish those games usually are...ya just can't go back.

I am and judging by the responses quite a few fellow forumites are.
I also got my Vita a few months ago for Persona 4 Golden and the (at the time) two Vita Neptunia games (the Producing Perfection Idol game and Rebirth 1).

I personally want a Vita TV because I find the actual Vita uncomfortable, but I read that Hyperdimension Neptunia is incompatible with the US version. This leads to me not getting a Vita TV as that was the main incentive.

That's one of the most Japanese games around, lol. Which version? Most of them are good if not great, and I think it's a very overlooked franchise.

The day GOG can start releasing classic Japanese PC games from the '80s (not Western ports, domestic exclusives!) will be glorious. If it ever comes, anyway.

Ohhh, I love me some Japanese games, I am actually a big proponent of importing games that require little to know knowledge of Japanese to enjoy, as well as getting good games ported to other languages. I recommend ANY of the following:

Kamen Rider Climax Heroes (series of fighting games that are quite fun and have some really nice diversity)
Kamen Rider Battride War 1 & 2 (a great Dynasty Warriors game set in the Kamen Rider multiverse.)
Kamen Rider: Seigi no Keifu (a fantastic survival horror-style game, though requires a translation guide)
Transformers Tataki (the dialogue isn't the best and the controls can take some getting used to but it's G1 and English)
Triggerheart Exelica (an absolutely fantastic danmaku/bullet hell game and worth playing through)
Super Robot Taisen (a great mecha RPG series, and there are plenty of fan translations for many of them)
Persona 2: Innocent Sin (if you can get the PS1 version and the fan translation patch it's much better than the port)
Far East of Eden: The Apocalypse IV (a quirky, and over the top RPG, requires an English translation guide though) this is one of my favourites!
Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers (fantastic sci-fi/fantasy RPG)
Shin Megami Tensei IV (great SMT game for the 3DS and worth playing)
Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne (my second favourite SMT (not to be confused with MegaTen) game)
Shin Megami Tensei I & II (II is my favourite of the SMT series of MegaTen)
Shin Megami Tensei If...
Rogue Galaxy (another sci-fi/fantasy RPG I HIGHLY recommend)
Xenoblade (a great game from the Xeno-series such as Xenogears and Xenosaga)
Clocktower (a fantastic multi-path adventure game for Super Famicom and a remake for PS1)
Galerians (a really really good survival horror game for PS1)
Mother trilogy (a really really good rpg series with a 4th fan game coming to PC next month (hopefully))
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (great PS1 and Dreamcast fighting game)
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure All-Star Battle (fantastic fighting game for PS3 with an English release)
Gundam Breaker (fantastic beat 'em up mixed in with building your own custom mech out of parts you acquire)
Tokyo Jungle (great survival game for PS3 with an English version (if you prefer) on PSN)

There were a few other games that I would mention, but since they already have been I won't add them to this list. I hope you find some games you enjoy as well as any one else who may be interested in anything I've put. I have more games I could list but they a chunk of them are on cartridge and require things like a Retron 5 to run. Either way, this is a subject I'm passionate about and I hope to have helped. :)

After watching a sufficient number of gameplay videos of Yokai Watch I can say I have no interest in that game but that doesn't mean I'll smokescreen any other game you subsequently list, that would be unproductive. It may have happened to you before that internet curmudgeons lure you into an endless loop trap only to repeatedly bash and exhaust your well-meant recommendations and that's regretful, however I'm not that kinda person and since you can't know if I am such a person or not, you can give me the benefit of the doubt seeing as bashing your first example doesn't qualify as loop trap curmudgeonry yet.

I had never been into racing games before. Then one day I saw this cd-ROM game on sale, a racing game taking place on some japanese-looking street. It looked different, and was way cheap. I *loved* that game! It was just pure street racing, without the usual pro-racing career focus with sponsors and shit.

In the end, I abandoned that game on that super-hard ice level. Later on, I got a USB wheel and tried - and failed - some hardcore racing sims and I played Flatout a whole lot.

But I'll NEVER forget my first love, whatever the name was.

Did anyone mention Yu-Gi-oh? I now think it's a slow paced game, but 10 years ago I played with a passion, Joey's passion.......

I still buy them tho =P Everything from niche translated novels like Hakuoki, Trigger Happy Havoc, Persona games (love love). Even FF games even though they don't interest me as much anymore (I stay away from FF online games tho).

Sadly I have a hugh backlog since I've been collecting JRPGs since Working Designs (I know alot people don't like them, however JRPGs were few and far between back then, and they ported over some nice quality games like the Lunar series. It was just so damn awesome back in the day.

So yeah hopefully some games still work when I retire so I will definitely not be bored and have more time =P If I last that long with my weak a** acid induced damaged stomach. I can't drink a damn soda without feeling I have to go tot the hospital and have to be careful what to eat with all this processed crap in my country =P

Why aren't cyborg parts implants available yet. I feel cheated dammit , it seemed so certain to come by with all those anime shows I watched back then >_<

::edited because I forgot to add I actually even do own a few japanese games I can't read. I got them oh so long ago. Most notable was Snatcher for sega saturn and maybe a castlevania game and biohazard game. Also some forgotten snes action jrpg.

+1 to you, sir, for calling out this game. I have been a fan of the Tengai Makyou series for many, many years and I own all of the PC-Engine games. While the first two games (and the 2nd game's side story) poke fun at Americas' imperceptions of Japan, Tengai Makyou: The 4th Apocalypse pokes fun at Japan's imperceptions of America. Both angles are equally funny, but if you don't have much familiarity with Japanese culture, the jokes in The 4th Apocalypse can be much easier to grasp.

Such a shame that the only game in this series to get an international release was a fighting game for the Neo Geo AES; Kabuki Klash.

I play JRPG's fairly often, and a smattering of other Japanese games on my Vita and DS, sure.

Why thank you, I greatly appreciate the +1 and kudos on the Tekkaman Blade reference in your name. I am a HUGE Tatsunoko fanboy, and am trying to get my hands on a copy of the Gatchaman Blu-ray set. I LOVE Tengai Makyou very much, but I agree the 4th Apocalypse is probably the easiest game to get humour wise for those not versed in Japanese humour. I know it's a more serious take but I JUST got my hands on a copy of Oriental Blue actually and it is still SO good. The 4th Apocalypse is my favourite Tengai Makyou game not just because of it's humour (oh god I still laugh my ass off at the Tombstone thing) but I greatly enjoy the animation done during battles. Far too little do they put such amazing cell animation into fights like that. I want the PSP version simply because I have no emulator that will run the game ATM and I heard rumour of an English translation patch I could at least play the game emulated with. Oh well I don't really mind using a translation guide since it is a game I really think everyone should play. Who knows like some RPGs that get PC re-releases there is always hope that T4A may someday see an official English release.

Oh come on, this is GOG. People will piss and moan on every release: because it's Japanese, because it's new, because it's a platformer, or simply because it's not Lucas Arts. I think you're getting overly deffensive there.

Personally, I enjoy both interesting plots and weird ideas, so I often enjoy Japanese games. I enjoyed war of the human tanks recently, starting from "WTF is a human tank?" all the way to weirdly enjoying the mechanics. Unfortunately, it seems Japan and PC gaming aren't exactly on the best terms, and I'm basically a PC only person, so I don't get to play many games from them.
