How are the Monkey Island remakes compared to the originals? Do they lose anything? Are they as good?

One of the cool things about the remakes is that you can switch between the new and old versions in the middle of playing, without interruption. I think you just press the F1 key, and it switches the graphical look without even needing to pause the game or reload the graphics engine or anything like that. It's actually quite awesome, and I wish more remakes of old games were like that.

Edit: Also, any place to get them that doesn't have DRM on them? If not i'll just grab them on Steam.

The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition doesn't let you have voiceovers in 'classic' graphics mode, but Monkey Island 2 does.
There is, however, a patch that lets you add the voices to an original copy of SoMI. Of course, to set it up you'll need both the old and SE versions.
EDIT: Oh yeah, meant to ask- is GamersGate trustworthy? I read the topic about their Bethesda Bundle misprice earlier, and it seems there's a lot of complaints about their customer service. I really want Gray Matter (and maybe the Kingdoms of Amalur collection), but obviously don't want to get screwed. And I'm not overly keen to sign up to yet another digital store.

@BlackMageJ While I never used that site myself I heard youtubers like totalbiscuit name it as a place to get games. So pretty sure its a safe place to get games but no idea about the customer support

Also, thanks for clarifying on the voice overs. And here's the Amazon link for KoA: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009YLKBQY/ref=s9_al_ft_g367_ir08?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-4&pf_rd_r=05VE3W2W4SF4M0PZ7W7M&pf_rd_t=1401&pf_rd_p=1446802642&pf_rd_i=1000716161

If you like light-hearted or humorous adventure games, I think these ones haven't been mentioned yet:
- Jolly Rover
- Puzzle Bots (also published by WadjetEye Games, you still have 2 days left to get it a little cheaper from Indie Royale)
- Hector, Badge of Carnage (published by Telltale)
- Ben There, Dan That
- Time Gentlemen Please!
Be aware that while the first two are pretty tame, the last three are not for the squeamish, so if you're easily offended, you might prefer to skip them. I think they're hilarious though. And don't judge the last two by their look, I think in spirit they're closer to the old classics than many others who sport top notch graphics.
Then there are also the episodic adventures The Journey Down and The Dream Machine, but since not all episode have been released yet and so far I haven't even played through the ones available, I can't comment on their quality.
Btw, has anyone here on this forum played What Makes You Tick: A Stitch In Time? I only played the free predecessor several years ago and I remember liking it.

Machinarium is the best adventure game I've ever played. I'd recommend it.
