I make music, but wouldn't really say I'm a musician. I can only play keyboards good enough to make tracks. Could never perform live and play something, and I really have not much of an idea of what I'm doing. Still, I somehow manage to make tracks. You can hear my stuff here > www.youtube.com/georgemarauder . It's mostly video game and tv/film music. Cheers!
I make music for a living and I suck.

It's ok. We can suck together. @_@

EDIT: Weird, it ate my post. Anyway, as a celebration to my fans for helping me break the top 10 locally on ReverbNation, my individual tracks are all free to download.

Enjoy!

EDIT 2: I know it must seem weird that I lamented my crowd review and I'm in the top 10 locally... It is. I am grateful to be noticed, and am giving back the only way I know how: with free music. Download as many tracks as you want.
EDIT 3: Songs on RN didn't save properly, everything is now fixed and they are all marked as free to download and stream.

BUMP! I know there's more musicians out there...
Staring at this page while I screw around with the basic NIB riff on my Strat.
My newest creation, albeit a scratch mix at this point. http://timsmidnightmile.bandcamp.com/track/a-laugh-for-a-tear-scratch-mix
Bumping this thread, it hasn't seen much love in a long time.

So I'm struggling to keep myself motivated to practice these days. Any tips for keeping myself playing? I know personally playing guitar takes me to a new place, but sometimes it isn't enough to get me to play.

It's sheer laziness to be frank. How do you keep motivated?
BUMP!

Where'd all the musicians go?

I'm looking for advice for how to stay motivated when no one seems interested in your music. I don't want to sell out, that's not an option, and I know I have a unique sound. What do you do to keep playing when people show you they don't care about what you record?

Make music because you want to make music. Yeah that sounds simple, but it's a good piece of advice. If you're not enjoying making music anymore because you're not gaining fans, take a moment to step back and ask yourself why you started creating music in the first place, and why you create music now.

Chippas: I'm quite interested to know if there are any others out there, mainly guitarists such as myself, and what genre you are mostly into playing? also, for how long have you been playing?

I'm in my 14th year playing guitar right now, and I'm mostly into metal, rock and punk when playing, but I'll listen to anything. I also have a youtube channel where i upload covers every now and then, but I'm not familiar enough with the rules to post a link here.

Please tell me about the equipment you're using also.

Cheers
I do play the guitar, but my primary instrument as an active musician these days is an octave mandola (it's a double size mandolin with a pitch range about that of the guitar). I play folk, mostly western European - English, Scottish, Irish, Welsh as well as some French and Scandinavian tunes - but also original tunes, American stuff and a tiny bit of central/eastern European stuff.

My octave mandola looks very much like this one:

Oh yeah, my guitar is an early 70s Japanese market Yamaha FG-150J. I have no what kind of life it lead before I bought it but it's a model that was never sold in Europe or the US.

Also you're fine to link to your stuff.

I play the guitar, and I have for 14 years now. I'm mostly into Metal, Rock and Punk when playing, but I'll listen to most anything that i find awesome. I'm currently playing on a Parker PDF70 guitar with crappy pickups, since I am currently a Swede living in Japan, (I needed something to play on) but at home I'm sporting a Caparison Dellinger.

I also have a youtube channel where i put covers every now and then, mostly from two of my favourite bands Killswitch Engage, and CKY.

Totally agree with NoNewTaleToTell, your motivation shouldn't come from recognition but from your own enjoyment and desire to make music.
I am singing in a band as a hobby, I guess my love for retro gaming kinda shows on our home page.
Der Endgegner
The music is nothing 8-bitty, though. More like punk rock.

I have a ton of tracks I've made, however the only thing online right now is a remake of this NES Metroid track:
