I'm talking about ambient artists like Steve Roach, Vidna Obmana, Alio Die, Robert Rich and Oöphoi.
Not to mention Pete Namlook, Tangerine Dream, Neuronium and Ian Boddy.

I also like experimental stuff such as Rapoon, Daniel Menche, Roedelius and Centrozoon.
Same goes for fusion jazz/rock like Nik Bärtsch and Stick Men.

I had a period when I listened to lots of dark ambient; Lustmord, Raison D'etre, Brighter Death Now, In Slaughter Natives, Mortiis and so on. I still listen to it every now and then, most recently Tholen's work.

On occasions I even like some early Current 93 and Nurse With Wound, very surreal and interesting.
I'm not above enjoying some nature sound music featuring rain, waves, wind etc.

Drone metal is a new area for me, although I haven't gone beyond Nadja's albums.

My most recent pick-ups were:
Ian Boddy - continuum
Erik Wøllo & Bernhard Wöstheinrich - weltenuhr
Arc - umbra
Kevin Kendle - light from Andromeda
Markus Reuter - todmorden 513

Right now I'm searching for some contemporary classical music similar to Jeff Greinke's albums 'Scenes From a Train', 'Virga', and 'Wide View'. If anyone has any suggestions it would be cool.
I am sure there are, and I certainly hope you succesfuly reach them, so here's a bump for no_unanswered_thread_for_christmas.
I definitely love this type of music. Anything along these lines, and chill really.

I don't know too many bands and such, but I did recognize Ian Boddy from your list. I liked Pulse by him.

I'll just name some random songs that I like:
- College - A Real Hero
- Jordan F - Space Romance
- Trevor Something - Do You Remember
- Carbon Based Lifeforms - Supersede
- Mazedude - Glow Worm Jim
- Orbital - Halcyon On and On
- Tycho - Cascade
- Brian Eno - Just Another Day
I think I know a song like that....

I like Fool's Paradise from Trigun. Gives a warm feeling.
I am a big ambient music fan, especially stuff like Aphex Twin, Autechre and so on.

BTW, here's a thread on these forums I made not too long ago with some of my favorite ambient/electronic tracks:

Not one of my favorites, but good song .
At one of my previous jobs, one of Brian Eno's songs was on the radio (I think they were interviewing him?) and I've never found it. Unfortunately, it was so long ago that I'm not sure I'd even recognise it if I heard it. Sad times.

Also Amythestium is my ambient music of choice (perhaps biased as my girlfriend introduced me to them).
Steve Roach? Lustmord? Current 93? My, you're a (wo)man of taste!
Mark Shreeve, Redshift, Biosphere are other favourites of mine.

I don't know much about Greinke, but my recommendation would be Jóhann Jóhannsson.

The Earth Mantra netlabel offers a large number of ambient / new age albums for free.

Nice, Orbital, Eno and Carbon Based Lifeforms are great, the others I hadn't heard of, thanks.

I had a look, great stuff. I recognized Autechre and Aphex Twin, but the others were completely new to me.
This is right up my alley, thanks.

I listen to Amethystium as well, the albums have a really nice combination of ambient, chill and neoclassical.
I haven't heard Eno's later work, the last one of his I listened to was the Apollo album. Might look him up again.
Could you guys link to some of your favorites?

I want to learn more about bands in this genre.

The more chill, the better.
I quite often listen to things from here: http://cryochamber.bandcamp.com/ The description reads "Cryo Chamber is a 24 BIT dark ambient label run by Simon Heath (Atrium Carceri) focusing on deep high quality dark ambient with a cinematic edge."

My favourite is Signals III by Sabled Sun.

I'm a dude by the way.

Mark Shreeve, Redshift, Biosphere ? you have great taste as well.
I recently discovered Redshift on Bandcamp and was able to complete my collection.

I had a listen to Jóhann Jóhannsson on Spotify, I use Spotify to listen to the music before actually buying the albums, because a 1-2 minute preview of an ambient piece doesn't tell you much. Anyway, Jóhannsson is just what I was looking for. His earlier albums in particular. I saw that he even made the music for the film 'The Theory of Everything', the one about Stephen Hawking. That's really cool, as I'm a bit of a popular science enthusiast. So this guy is a very interesting composer.

I've used Earth Mantra for a while, they have a really nice selection of artists.
Some of my favourites from there are Altus, Fosel, Mystified, Phillip Wilkerson, Shane Morris and Stephen Philips.

I also recommend the Rain Netlabel: http://rainnetlabel.blogspot.se/
Silent Flow also has some good stuff: http://silent.com.md/artists/

Otherwise I usually get my music at eMusic, Bandcamp, MusicZeit, and Groove.nl.
