Next weekend Paczyk's friend should let me borrow his backup AEG (MP5 by CYMA), so by Sunday I should know whether I want to buy a Classic Army G3-series or SCAR-L as my first ASG. :) I love the concept and I was pretty hyped up to try it for a long time, I'm glad I'll get a chance to try it. :)

Skystrider: I have never played with paintball or airsoft, but I did use to play a laser gun game way back. We would be working in teams of red versus blue, wearing these vests with hit detection plates on them and run through some kind of labyrinth, try to gun each other down. Quite fun, actually.
I played something like that once, during my PlanetSide outfit's meetup in the UK some three years ago. One of our oufitmates ran the place, but they only had sensors in the helmets, but the guns looked like the M40 pulse rifles from Alien and had a shotgun attachment in the front grip... And they were working on creating programmable "profiles" to gove the guns different characteristics, based on assault rifles from PlanetSide. :) Most importantly we played objective-based games in a dense woodland environment. Great stuff.
On the other hand Airsoft seems pretty awesome since the guns are pretty much 1:1 replicas and you actually feel the hit, which I assume makes you more eager not to get shot, unlike in Laser Tag / Laser Ranger. :) Because I didn't care much for a few hit points, I did some pretty crazy stuff back then (was a tad thinner then, too:P) and got called Rambo on one occasion. ;)

sk8ing667: If I may make a suggestion about those AEG's :)
Classic Army is over hyped, they're only really nice AEG's are M15 series. The only really nice SCAR-L right now is made by ARES or VFC, both will run you over 450, the ARES around $800.
Although, you can't go wrong with a TM, airsoft gi has made a very nice line up of affordable m4's that you can find on their website, the G4 series, and yes wishbone, I am one of those bastards.
A TM is all fine and good, but if I'm gonna spend a significant amount of hard-earned money on a gun, I want it to look and feel good. That means metal, which TM doesn't seem too fond of. :)
And since CA is the only manufacturer who makes metal G3s (or G33/G41s etc) that I'm aware of, I'm pretty much stuck with it. :) I was always fond of G3s in games (like Rainbow Six Vegas) and think it's a pretty sexy gun, and I can always upgrade it bit by bit... :) I only consider the SCAR as an option if I was unable to get a decent G3, so I'd rather buy the latter (and I'm stuck with CA in this case).
Either way, thanks for the advice. Didn't know ARES and VFC make decent (by which I understand "reliable") guns.
