I think I've seen them all now. I've recently started Sins of a Solar Empire - it's a decent game but no way does it compare to Imperium Galactica II.
IG2 is the most intricate 4X while not becoming too overly complicated and it's very well balanced when considering the implementation of tasks in the game.
The only problem that I have with IG2 (and it's a big one) is the horrible horrible horrible combat system.
Not only is IG2's combat overly simplistic and dull but the presentation really needed an overhaul - you just simply couldn't see the enemies ships often times because they were small dots blending in with the background of space.
Second place winner I would give to Star Wars Empires @ War but I kinda wonder if many would argue that game to be more of an RTS with a tacked-on tactical overhead screen.
