Al1: For me, Night Watch is the best of the lot. Not only very funny, but thematically beautiful. Old age, confronting one's past, honouring the fallen, standing up to wrongdoers, doing the right thing not because you have to, but because you know you should. A genuinely brilliant piece of literature. The ending just before *SPOILERS* Vimes travels back to the present damn near had me in tears. Sad, defiant, quietly triumphant.
Oh yes, Night Watch was absolutely brilliant. Not one of the best books I have red by Pratchett, but generally one of the best books I have red (note that this category isn't only for a few books, I have quite a lot of them in it)
Where's my GOG
Is that my GOG?
It goes "You must be online at all times to play me"
That's a Ubisoft game, that is not my GOG.

It's my GOG! Oh happy day I found my GOG.

On a side note, am I one of the few people who really like the fifth elephant? Sam Vimes seething with anger most of the time ready to blow up. Maybe that's just because I can relate, working in IT support on a school of people who think they know all of how a "proper" computer ought to work, but still can't work out if the battery's dead then it likely won't power up without power attached to it.
That was really well done DrakeFox! :)

As for loving Fifth Elephant, I love all the Guards/Vimes books. Night Watch is #1, but Fifth Elephant is right up there. I work in IT support too so I know the feeling all too well!

I thought Jingo was also a fine Vimes book. He was completely out of his element with the brewing war. A classic example of Vetinari throwing him to the wolves knowing the wolves didn't stand a chance.
