Hi GOG friends, lol...

I've been out of the PC gaming loop for a while now, but recently started buying games at GOG. I just installed Far Cry 1 and remembered why I never game on my PC... the stock fan on my 8150 revs up like a jet engine when I play games.

Do any of you have experience with the 8150 and can perhaps recommend a good water cooling or fan system? I'll probably buy some Arctic Silver while I'm at it if I'm going to be taking the old fan off.

Thanks for any help.

I also had a stock cooler on my cpu but my life improved dramatically by 500% by getting a decent aftermarket cooler.
I don't think you really should go for watercooling as it's a lot more expensive and if you still have fans in your videocard and powersupply you will still hear noise.
I'm not really up to date on fans, but I have a Coolermaster with heatpipes going to a large heatexchanger and a big fan (bigger fans mean less noise in general), just search for an AM3 socket compatible cpu cooler.

edit:

I have this one, should work for AM3 too.

Thanks for the help, I'm currently looking at this one:

How important do you think the thermal paste is? Should I use what it comes with, or actually buy Arcitic Silver?
Helpful reviews (water cooling):

You should use thermal past but as little as possible, it's only needed to make better surfacecontact between the cpu and the heatsink, more paste doesn't mean better cooling and you risk spilling it on the motherboard or cpu pins and frying your system.
My cooler came with paste and personally I'm not sure if a centigrade temp drop is worth the extra money, cpu's can take some heat, tbh I don't think a grade A thermalpaste is going to make a noticable difference.

The Hyper 212 EVO is a tall cooler: 159mm. Too tall for many cases.

Motherboard standoff height: 6.5 to 9.5 mm
Motherboard thickness: 1.5 mm
Socket and processor: 8 to 9 mm (for AM3, AM3+)

The top of the processor sits 16 to 20 mm above the motherboard tray.

If your case doesn't have a minimum of 180mm inside measure from motherboard tray to side panel, that cooler is probably not going to fit. Many mid-tower cases will not take that cooler for that reason. Measure before buying.

Thanks you guys were all very helpful. I was thinking the Hyper 212 EVO was enormous, I'll make sure to measure the space inside my case before considering that one.
