Anyone else been playing it recently? I've finally played through a full round of each race, Predator, Alien, and Marine, and here are my observations:
+ Predator vision modes are highly detailed, and feel like you are actually watching the movies. They changed the Xeno-vision to green like in the AVP movies, but it's still amazingly detailed. (Thermal mode is EXACTLY like Predator 1 and 2)
+ Aliens are still the ultimate close quarters and stealth class. Nothing is more satisfying than seeing a marine running without looking behind or on the ceiling and plunging your tail into his back and through his mouth.
+ Marines are accurate to the movie, with some aesthetic upgrades to the weapons (Pulse rifle and flamethrower are a bit bulkier, shotgun isn't an old Remington/Winchester sawed off, etc)
+ Trophy kill = WIN
+ Feels like an actual movie, not some cheap thing that was rushed and thrown out to tie in with a movie. These guys spent time with the game and it shows.
+ Level design accurate. Despite only seeing one map, it feels like I'm in Aliens or Alien 3.
- No Crouching, not for Marines, Predator, or Alien.
- Wall walking is tricky to get used to at first, not because it is disorienting, but because sometimes it will do it without you even wanting to
- Pred-tech vision mode has been removed (I guess this kinda makes sense tho, why wouldn't Predator's give off body heat visible in the thermal spectrum?)
- Controls seem very console oriented (Yes, I am picking it up for console despite downloading PC demo)
- Predator jumping controls can be VERY confusing, with marking jump points and jumping to them.
Despite the control issues, I think the game is very promising. Yes, we only got to try deathmatch, but Rebellion seems to have taken great care with their research and art direction and it shows, and this is coming from a die hard Aliens/Predator fan.
I think I'm gonna puke.
Hm, interesting, i've downloaded it, and then learned it was MP only, so i'll wait for a SP demo, or something.
Thing is, when You launch the game, it tells You it's not the finished/polished product, which is a bit weird since we're close to the release date.
Anyhow, i do hope it;ll be a nice game, and since i'm a PC games, i really hope the controls won't be as bad [bad for PC] as mentioned by Wraith. So many games go to trash because of sh..ty ported controls.
Crouching seems essential, so i hope it'll be in the final product.
Fingers crossed.
Can anyone say how bad it runs on a 7600GT?:P

Yes, the Wraith's description is truly sickening. I may even go as far as saying it was outrageous!

The controls, while kinda sloppy, are still playable, they just take some getting used to.
But the exclusion of a crouch function? Thats criminal. Even the crappiest FPS has a crouch function. Hell, Duke Nukem 3D had a crouch function and that game is over 10 years old.

I'm thinking how often was I ducking in original AvP... Hmmm... Marine: When I needed to get somewhere. Predator: When I needed to get somewhere. Alien: ... ... It would be easier to find moments when I was not ducking.
That just about sums up usefulness of it. In realistic games where it actually improves your aim it's important, otherwise... Bothersome usually

Well, as long as they are not butchered, like, em, Borderlands vehicle controls, or any other game, where You feel "this was designed for a pad", i'll live.
If the controls feel like keyboard, then it's gonna be ok, and they'll patch it up someday... Or mod it.;) But that "sloppy controls", reminds me of bad ported controls...
Well, since crouching, we also head the prone, and the lean, too bad they ain't used often in games.
I just hope the game will be a boosted AVP1/2, and not a shadow of it's former self.

How about taking cover?
Reminds me of this:
Poncho: You're bleeding, man. You're hit.
Blain: I ain't got time to bleed.
Poncho: [Confused] Oh... Okay...
Poncho: [Poncho shoots a bunch of grenades up to the top of the cliff] You got time to duck?

Arteveld: How about taking cover?

Levels in AvP veren't generally designed for you to take cover by ducking, and the whole gameplay isn't too supportive of it either. Just shoot whatever goes in your general direction before it kills you, that's all
On a side note, Alien trophy kills are incredibly brutal in the demo:
Tail impalement through back, out the chest (Predator, Marine, Alien)
Tail impalement through back, out the mouth (Marine)
Grabbed from behind, runs tail along face, slices head off with tail blade (Marine)
Headbite from back/front (Marine, Predator)
Grabbed from behind, tail blade slices face off (Alien)
I have a feeling these are toned down for the demo and multiplayer, cause the Predator hasn't ripped any heads/spines out that I've seen.

Hm, i remember ducking behind computers a lot in the first AvP.. ;)
I'm from the demanding brood, no matter if's helpful, like killing everyone in Ultimas, or Fallouts, and such. You can duck, because you can. I wouldn't mind having the ability to piss and smoke ingame too;P
Anyhow, this demo is described as work in progress, so who knows, maybe ducking will be there, with better accuracy. If not in the original release, then with patches/mods.
They changed the sound of the Smart Gun from the movies. :(( I don't understand why they did this, as the rest of the sounds are pretty much like in the Alien and Predator movies. And Smart Gun was my favorite weapon from the AvP universe....WHY they changed it??!
Loved the demo. Hated it at first, that was before I actually got into the game (they fucked up matchmaking). After they fixed it with a patch and I could play with a friend and some strangers - awesomness.I too dislike some console concessions like lack of crouch (I don't give s shit if it is needed, I WANT it anyway, more control features is always better, see Arma 2 for how to create shitload of control options while keeping good controls!), but overall - great. Great atmosphere, weapons, graphics, sounds.
Demo was alright. I hope the finished product isn't like this, though. Really. The way they implemented the Predators weapons were awkward. Maybe i'm missing something, but whats wrong with the traditional "switch to the weapon you want to use" aspect?

Lazy, bad port.
Good atmosphere though.
I'd like to point out this demo is the same thing they used in the last E3 convention. That's the reason it's not doing to well, along with the fact there is no dedicated servers. It gets 8 people together then makes one of them host, which is why controls seem clunky....lag.
Finished game videos look a lot better than this demo so I'm sure final game will be worth playing to me. Hell in original AVP2 95% of the time played was in singleplayer with modded maps and all, so MP is more of a bonus to me.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, there will be dedicated servers in final game, it's all over their website at Rebellion.
