"An offline/internet-less achievements system" seem pretty pointless.

Beside it the game developers that add achievements, Steam just provide the platform.

Also some of Daedalic and Wadjet Eye do contain achievements systems (obviously offline) I assume they were originally added for Steam users.

Yeah, I mean, look at this shit.
Dust: An Elysian Tail has acheivements too. They don't get in way at all, as there is no pop-up or anything and you can only check them in menu.

I actually deem achievements as a reason for not buying a game...
Exactly. It's one of the reasons I don't buy games from Steam any more, and always go with GoG if it also has the same game. As soon as I get one achievement in a game, I just HAVE to get all of them, which is not enjoyable, it's just stressful.

Totally agree. Especially if those "achievements" are of the kind "Congratulations, you have managed to start the game. Here is 1 billion loser points" and the like. Good grief...

What happened to actually just playing the damn game? Do we really need a carrot in front of our noses to know what way to turn?

Have you played modern games? A lot of them are not easy to get through. That is based on their sheer lack of ideas and gameplay.
You can find those in Blackwell series (and any other Wadjet Eye Games) Dev's decission..

Hey, it's not that bad :) I have nothing against either. And simply don't care much about achievements in most cases - if they make anybody happy, bring them in!

But I don't say anything like that. GOG fits my needs better so - from my perspective - GOG is a better shop. Some people prefer Steam and that's fine too. Having a choice - I'll pick GOG over Steam, but when there is no choice (because of the right holder or because of poopy Moby Rating Criteria on GOG) - I'll go with Steam or Origin. I won't spend as much money as I would on GOG (for day one purchases and pre-orders it's GOG or DRM-free version from the dev directly), but I will use those services.
If ever added to GOG, I hope it is optional.
It is one of (the many) things I hate about steam.

Happily pottering about trying to survive in Stalker or enjoying the stunning graphics of Bioshock Infinite & blammo!
Another tedious pop up blocking the screen that server no purpose. Still wish they`d let us turn those off like we can chat pop-up etc.

I`m the same with mmo`s though, don`t flash junk on screen unless it has an option to block it :)

Roxolani: An offline/internet-less achievements system. Retro City Rampage has this feature.
You do know that any in-game achievements are the choice/ obligation of the devs/ pubs and that GOG does not do any additional coding/ "hacking" except what may be required to make older games work, yes?
No. There isn't really any point to adding achievements, and it would just be a pain to program.

I'd rather have something practical, like some sort of client that organizes and updates GOG games without having to go to the site.
Completely optional, of course.
Why? Acheivements are useless. If you can't enjoy a game without them then you shouldn't be playing the game or even buying it in the first place.
Well, sometimes achievements reward and encourages certain styles of play (i.e : No killing achievements in Dishonored, difficulty level achievements, etc), so they aren't that bad.

Most of the time they are ridiculous. Like getting an achievement for completing a certain level on any difficulty level. I never understood the point behind that.
