grviper: As for spying with a model, the camera has a pretty narrow FOV, doesn't it?
The one he had had a bit larger FOV.

Now I got to know it better, it actually wasn't a model plane, but a model helicopter. The earlier Youtube video I saw was the same but with a model plane so I got them mixed up a bit.

My friend said he made the system himself (according to instructions from internet), and on the whole it cost 1000€. 600€ of that was the model helicopter (without any additional AV equipment), and 400€ for the AV equipment, ie. wireless camera on the helicopter, and the VR goggles to the user. If you skip the mobile VR goggles and use some monitor/laptop setup instead for the camera view, the price gets lower.

The wireless camera on the model plane isn't apparently that easily breakable, so the monetary consequences of crashing the plane/helicopter are apparently not any higher than with normal model plane hobby.

This could make a nice project, I might be up to it especially as I have help near me.

WarZombie: Well thank-you sir, I shall look into each of these, especially Jane's Fighters. You seem to be pretty high on that game.

Primate: Happy to help. Jane's FA is compiled from a series of games from EA/Jane's such as U.S. Navy Fighters, Advanced Tactical Fighters and a few others. I used to play USNF a lot when I was a kid.

Keep in mind that these "survey" sims (featuring many flyable planes) from EA are more of a mix between arcade'ish action games and flight simulators. They have their flaws. They're quite simplified in terms of physics/principles of flight, operations in general etc. They don't provide a good sense of speed either, I'm afraid. The graphics are from the mid-1990s.

Maybe you should check out the ATF demo for a small taste of the concept. You can run it using DOSBox.
