Master of Orion 1 and 2 are both available on Gamersgate and GOG.com but on Abandonia.com the 'Buy it' button links to the Gamersgate version instead of the GOG.com one. (Lands of Lore links to GOG.com, but I think that is because it isn't available on Gamersgate)

You'd think that a site like Abandonia who would favor GOG instead of a site like Gamersgate... Just a random thing or is there more behind it?

Maybe they get paid for it by Gamersgate?

I will link to Dungeon Keeper 3 on GOG.com then.

Maybe because you can buy them individually over there?

From a €uropean perspective, the GOG version is the cheapest.
Oops... typo... ;-)

Just another idea, but maybe after the stunt they needed to change all links and keeped them.
They are not obliged to link to GOG. I don't know the business model for Abandonia, but if they are aiming to make money, I can well believe they'd take sponsorship from a bigger fish.
Gamersgate dish out the blue coins to anyone that helps them out one way or another. I guess they offer a better deal than GOG.
I dont see how one link makes it that they favor GamersGate? In fact pretty much all the rest of thier 'Buy now' links direct over here
Erm

a) We don't make a penny off the links we place towards Gamersgate or GOG. We're not using any affiliate program that makes us earn any money

b) I assume it was linked to Gamersgate for a reason - perhaps because they had the games first?

Ah, so you're part of Abandonia then? As I said, I don't know what your business model is (or even that your are modelling as a business, though I guess you have costs). So I'll take it at face value that you're not revenue generating, and have therefore just found a supplier that legally supplies the game.

Thanks for clarifying this point.

It's very easy to check: if the link contains no extra info, it's not going to make anyone any money. Some other abandonware sites do get paid for adding ads and such to their site, but we don't. And yes, I'm administrator there.

It's not quite so black and white, there is such a thing as fixed sponsorship, despite what google might tell people. In this case of course, you would have said.
They should make a bit IMO, to cover costs if nothing else. As for GG over GOG, I would guess it is the "sold separately" reason.

I haven't been to an abandonware site in a long time, but I thought they would typically have multiple links if there were multiple sources for the games.
low rated
Abandonia is basically a piracy website. What Abadonia is doing is very illegal. I seriously doubt GamersGate or GOG deal with Abandonia.

There is no such thing as "abondonware". Copyright law does not recognize the term or concept of "abandonware". Abandonia has been able to get away with first-degree piracy because publishers and copyright holders do not bother with old games that they no longer make and (they think) can no longer bring in any money. They have bigger fish to fry as they target piracy websites that are stealing their latest products. However, those publishers and companies still own the copyrights and trademarks to every single one of the games on Abadonia.

Regardless of what you think of piracy, what makes Abandonia unethical is that they are selling advertisement space and asking for "donations" with the copyrighted products they stole.
