This may already be widely known and I'm just ignorant, but just in case I thought I'd mention it here - for any DOS release that uses DOS4GW extender (you can tell which ones they are as they display a DOS4GW message when launching), a freeware open source version exists here - http://dos32a.narechk.net/index_en.html

For games that have a standalone DOS4GW.exe file, just copy the DOS32A.exe into that folder, delete the old DOS4GW file then rename DOS32A to DOS4GW.exe.

For games that have DOS4GW integrated into the .exe file (the Tex Murphy games, for example), the release comes with a tool called SB.exe that allows you to substitute them. Copy all the files in the zip to the game's directory, and from a command prompt type sb /r nameoffile.exe (so for Pandora Directive it would be sb /r tex4.exe).

I've seen a (roughly) 20% speed increase in the games I've tested it with so far (UAKM, Pandora Directive, and Blood).
On the topic of Pandora, does this program get rid of sound stutter? Do/did you use to get a stutter in sound every 15 seconds or so? It's not a huge deal, but if this fixes it, I'd switch.

Have you tried to change sound frequency to 44100 Hz and set a bigger buffer?
