I am looking for a cheap one, it will probably be used most for playing games and reading study material (pdfs).
I am haveing my eyes on this one http://www.androidcentral.com/archos-gamepad-review that in combination with some emulators. Downside is reading might not be great with it, especially held upside down. Also it is not getting great reviews.

Anyone have experience with this tablet? and any other recommendations?

Yeah but tablets arent really meant for gaming even if you can play games on them.
If you want cheap (not really any of the big brands ie Asus/Samsung etc) you will be looking at the chinese android ones - quad core cpu , multicore gpu's (not as good as Tegra chipped ones). Cant make any recommendations as its a lottery and crapshoot although sticking with more well known chinese brands like Ainol would be advisable if u went down this route.

Tablets not for gaming? angry birds :o :p. i dont really care for any graphic intensive games whichever they are.
but it seems nice for old emulator stuff like c64 or nes (or even psx) that combined with a joystick like that's on the tablet. Can't see why that wouldnt work?

My niece has a Cherry tablet but alot of people have dead pixels with it. My mom has an Empire but with that alot of people have battery problems. So yeah it is a crapshoot.

I'm not sure about their availability and pricing in Europe, but in the U.S. the best bargain right now for a tablet is the Nook HD (7") and HD+ (9"). The HD is $129 and the HD+ is $149. Sure, the default Nook version of android isn't that great, but they are both *very* easy to root. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317500

I got an HD+ a couple months ago and absolutely love it. You just cannot beat a 1920X1280 screen (256 ppi) for that kind of price.
I have an Archos Gamepad. It's actually rather good - much better than the reviews might suggest - and SNES/PSX emulators run really well. The only downsides are:

- The battery is quite poor. You'll get 3 hours max.

- The buttons are a bit 'clicky' (i.e. noisy), and might annoy people close to you...

Otherwise, I'd certainly recommend it. (Although you'll want a custom firmware)

I also have a 7" Sumvision Cyclone Voyager, which is probably the best among the super-cheap tablets. It has the same CPU/GPU as the Gamepad, but a lower resolution screen (and obviously no controller buttons)
