Zookie: I have a little bit of money left in my gaming budget for the end of the year and I thought I would do a little contest to have a giveaway. I have been an avid gamer for some time and not much surprises me anymore. So I am looking for something wholly new for me. So I will gift a 5.99 GOG to anyone who provides me the tile of a game that meets the following criteria:

1. I must have never heard of it before.
2. It must be available to buy and digital download from a reputable site.
3. You must convince me that it would be fun to play.

I have a pretty broad taste in games so I am up for trying just about anything. Throw a title at me an see if you win!

Thanks!
Alien Soldier

The best 2D action game ever created by treasure in 1995, Released on the MegaDrive in EU and Japan, this title never made it to the US

Fortunately, thanks to the internet, the title is now available on: Steam, DotEmu, Wii VC

With massive bosses, a steep difficulty curve and a very rewarding weapon system this is one game that will take some time to master and give you one of the best experiences in the 2D action genre if you do

highly reccomended from me

FPS, RPG and space-sim in an open world universe. Explore planets, do missions etc.A little buggy but overall a very interesting experience.
I have two little games I liked and maybe aren't too known. Both are on Steam.

First is The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom. It's a 2D puzzle-platformer about a pie burglar who can clone himself. Visually nice and addictive. Here is the store page.

The other one is Dark Void Zero. It's a 2D retro action platform, made as a prequel to Dark Void, as if it was made years ago for the NES. Challenging, nice gameplay. Link to the page.

Also, you can find lots of freeware unknown games from the Tiggit Game Installer.

I will go for Larva Mortus

A great little horror themed twin stick shooter with random levels. Available on steam very cheap. It's very addictive and fun for little sessions at a time, but because of it's addictive nature those small sessions could turn into big ones.

I played the demo once when i was bored and bought it immediately after because i thought it was amazing. Played it for more then 25 hours but it can probably be beaten in a couple of hours but you can continue with random levels and trying to find all the objects (like in binding of isaac, come to think of it, it is a bit like binding of isaac but then with vampires and wherewolves and zombies,...)

El Matador :

http://www.gamersgate.co.uk/DD-MAT/el-matador

I have friends in the gaming community that have never heard of this. When it was released I offered to do a review for a site and the Gaming Editor said he'd never even heard of it and didn't know what it was.

It was hard to find before the digital revolution when it was released, disc based copies were few and far between in independent game retailers as well as the larger known stores. It was one of those titles that ended up in the bargain bin shortly after release then vanished into obscurity.

So it is now available at Gamersgate DRM free which is always cool.

The game itself is made by 1c company and puts you in the shoes of a DEA officer, you visit loads of varied locations from warehouses, tropical locations and also expensive mansions to do your drug busts. The game play itself is exactly the same as the Max Payne games by Rockstar but you don't need a bottle of anti depressants to get you through the story it unlike Max!

Theres loads of weapons available and you can pull off various bullet time type maneuvers in slow motion to get out of tight spots.

Its a really fun less known game whose limelight was stolen and compared to Max Payne way to much. Well worth getting if you like 3rd person shooters.

I enter with a really old game

1. Crystal Caves (1991)

2. It's still available on its publisher's (now 3Drealms formerly Apogee) website:
http://www.3drealms.com/caves/

3. It's a devilishly difficult platform game, with many funny moments, lots of creative elements and this wonderful retro feeling.

Edit: I'm not sure if you need DosBox to make it work. Saying this, if that is the case I'd really to see this game on GOG.

Ooooh - another chance to talk about my favourite game...

1. Artificial Intelligence Machine (A.I.M.)

2. Available from GreenManGaming Here!

or Gamersgate
Here!

3. Why play it? Its a gorgeous combination of RPG and Elite like mix of trading, shooting and upgrading your hover like machine as you try to unravel the mysteries of the mech-mind and why you have been chosen to be the one. Decent graphics, gameplay like nothing else I've ever really encountered before, the only drawbacks are a slightly flaky translation from the native Russian to English, and a Slightly steep learning curve at the very start.
Once over that, the worlds open up to you and you'll just want to explore every inch of each area you encounter.
How about Lone Survivor

http://www.lonesurvivor.co.uk/

It is a post-apocalyptic psychological horror game with retro-styled 2D graphics. Players control an isolated, surgical mask-wearing survivor of an infection which has turned the world's population into aggressive, shambling mutants. With limited food and an increasingly fragile mental state caused by his isolation, the player character must be guided outside his apartment in order to look for other survivors. There are no indications that any others survived the apocalypse, bar a note which encourages the player to locate a party of survivors on the other side of the apartment building.
Syobon Action...

Or the slightly cuter Eryi's Action... both are platformers... that hate you...

If you play them, make sure to do a LP on Youtube... I never get tired of watching the reactions... :P

P1na: This thread looks like fun.

Ever heard of Dominions 3> the awakining? Mentioning it in light of your TBS thread. It's an old indie, if I understood that correctly, selling for an absurdly high price. Graphics are crappy and it has a very steep learning curve. Plus, it has no trace of a campaign, making it eminently multiplayer.

However, if you get past all that, it's just amazing. Tons of units, factions and magic rituals to help your pretender ascend to godhood. And by pretender I mean from Devas, dragons or vampire lords to a fountain. You need to take care of both the military part and your dominion, or areas where your pretender is considered god and can shape the earth to their liking. The underlying ruleset takes care of the smallest details, when you look into it, but it's easy to overlook.

I recommend trying to play with the Chtulu faction at least once, your commanders go insane and you get free cultists every turn.
I have had Dom3 for a long lime. It nice to see someone else who can appreciate how great of a game it is and not be put off by its simple visuals.
Harbinger. It's a hack'n slash RPG, kinda like Diablo 2, but with a Sci-fi setting. You can get it on GG DRM-free for less than 5 euros.

Hesusio: I've got just the thing. Transarctica. You basically manage an enormous armoured train in post-apocalyptic ice age Eurasia. You travel from town to town, trading supplies, buying upgrades and military assets (weapons, wagons of infantry, mammoth cavalry. The usual), fighting any other train you meet to the death and working your way through the story.

If that's not original, I don't know what is.
:) wierdly enough I iplayed this game a lot in college.

Yep, nice as you say. While I'm somewhat surprised you know it, I mostly mentioned it because I knew a bunch of underdogs were going to show up on the thread, and wanted to giv Dom3 some visibility. It was Dom3 or TIM, and TIM is here on GOG so...

AFnord: Anyway, I would like to recommend Achron.

Soyeong: I gave the demo a try a while back and I think I made the mistake of playing when I was tired because it made my brain hurt. Fortunately, I picked up a copy from the IndieFort Bundle, so giving the full game to try in on my to-do list. The AI is pretty bad, but that's to be expected with such open ended game mechanics. It's all about the multiplayer anyway, so it's nice that it gives you an extra copy for a friend when you buy it.
Brain-pain will happen no matter what. But I found it to be good brain-pain.
