Nobody mentioned Neuromancer (1988-1989, Electronic Arts). It was a masterpiece, and it gets a lot of votes on the GOG Community Wishlist...

Cadaver747: Deathtrack (1989) - Best f@cking game ever!
There's Death Track Resurrection. Which isn't all that bad. Just very eccentric at times. But be warned, the guy playing it in that video is awful at it.

RottenRotz: SC1 graphics were outdated even in 98 :)
Very true. It did feel like a big step backwards from Total Annihilation a year before. There's definitely room for improvement without making everything cartoony.

Death Track: Resurrection is a spit on the face of original game fun. It's disgusting, people should go to jail for weak remakes.
Circuit's Edge.

Mentao: Wrong decade, but Darklands
The first thing that came to mind for me, as well. I loved the feel of Darklands. One of my all time favorites, super tough to beat (was actually released at first with and end game crash that really sucked)

I loved a lot of the SSI stuff (sword of Aragon, Wizard's crown) would like to see those redone

Yeah, I had to wait almost 10 years (for internet to happen) to be able to finish the game. I had to install the patch and finally I was able to finish the game I still consider to be the best RPG ever. I guess it is the longest time I've taken to finish a game.

LoL. I wrote Microprose(?) a letter telling them what the issue was and that it crashed every time at the ending and they mailed me back a 3.5 floppy with the "fix" on it (quite a while later). I was able to finish the game at that point.
Wrong era, but I think it needs to be said.

Plok!

It's among the most creative games I've played.
