Most of the new games on GoG seem to be at the $10 price point. Interestingly the vast majority of the top 10 are $6 games. Not so long ago it made very little difference to me but since the NZ dollar has crashed back to a more traditional value vs the US I think twice now about buying a $10 GoG.
Just an observation. I'm interested to see what others think of the new prevalence of $10 games.
Well, personally I see myself hesitating the $10, but the $6 I simply bought without hesitation. Which is probably why I only have EWJ1+2. But I do plan on getting some more games.

Same here. It's weird how 4$ can have such an impact :o (I'm still a student)

It's called Good Old Games for a reason, if it's good enough you'll skip the steak dinner and get a game. :3

But I do love steaks! I agree though that the games are pretty awesome, which is why I go to work after class, so I can justify indulging myself with gems like these.
It's not an issue for me. I'm not a starving student though. Our family income gives us lots of disposable income that I can do with as I will. But even if that weren't the case, I don't think I'd hesitate over the $4 price difference unless I were REALLY hard up for cash. But if I were in that situation, I'd probably be better off putting the money somewhere other than computer games.
Its a surprisingly large difference, psychologically.
$5 is just throwaway cash i spend on stuff every day. But when it goes up to $10 i start to consider the purchase, do research, look for other options, etc..
Unreal Gold I'd have bought no question at $5.99. But at $10 I start to wonder how well it'll have aged, and whether i'll enjoy it that much, or i should buy a CD or DVD instead.
Also, using unreal as an example again, it's price doesn't seem consistent with some other games on here (Giants, Shogo, the upcoming UT2004, or even fallout) .
I'm glad GOG is getting new publishers, but i hope $9.99 isn't the new black.
I also hope being sans soundtracks isn't the new black either.
You don't get as much with these games as you do say Fallout or Redneck Rampage.
I fall in line with the OP. The Aussie dollar has also lost about 30-40 cents (depending if you have a good day or not) on the exchange. So While $10 was great (Amazing really!) back when GOG launched, it's not so much now.
Nothing that can be done until we march towards parity again sadly. But for now, with a tighter budget, and a low exchange, purchase rates have dropped.
I do expect $10 to be standard, publishers will want as much cash as they can grab, and price can always fall over time if doing so would prove positive to the bean counters up there :}
Well put soulgrindr, I bought some older release DVDs the other day for equivalent to $6US each, so thats really the competing market.
As others have said $10 isn't exactly breaking the bank but $6 I don't even think about it. If I might like it and it's $6 I buy it. Good point on the extras too weclock, they will probably get some extras in time though.
Well I also think that at present time 10$, for me is a bit high (even though you have the extras and drm free and stuff).
I understand that the work/effort that gog has made must be paid somehow, but unfortunatelly at the moment I can't dish out 10$ for a game that easily, specialy when i still own much of the original that they offer here.
This is an interesting read and has taken a bit of a turn from the OP.
For me personally, I have yet to purchase a $10.00 game. Affording it is not the issue as nearly everyone can compensate for a $10.00 charge.
It is personally a matter of stewardship with what I have and the dislike of charging for things (I like paying in advance, but not an option).
I can not say for sure, but some of the new games that have come along make me wonder if the publisher demands the $10.00 price point or gog will not get the game.
I look at some of them Jagged Alliance Series for example and think there is no way it is worth $10.00 each. Looking at the images and the release year, 1994, 1995. Same with Disciples: Sacred Land Gold 2001, and now the original UT Gold 2000, they appear on the high side.
I do not think it is gog, but I think it may be the publisher that is wanting the most cash they can get from their previously dead game.
For me, I will stick with the $6.00 titles for now and when a worthy $10.00 title comes along that I personally think is set at the right price point, I will buy it.
For now I am very satisfied.

With the Dollar to UK pound rate going from $2 to $1.40 for £1, my G.O.G. games have gone up by about 30% in UK pounds!
This means, and truth has to be told. I can buy some games on ebay with printed manual and box for less than the $10 (which is around £6.50). For example, it's not too difficult to get Sacred Gold on UK ebay for around £6.00 including postage..

Few words from GOG.com. We strongly believe in value for money and YES - $5.99 is the perfect price point for older games. Still, the final word is on the publisher's side. We always think, that having some games for $9.99 is better than not having them at all. We will do our best to have more titles for $5.99, we are fighting hard for it.
