CarrionCrow: Yes, I ran through it as a decker to start (my own given when it comes to RPG's - if there's a locked ANYTHING, I want to be able to open it). Just threw together a troll adept who uses unarmed attacks and throwing weapons, just to see how their attack is compared by cybered up street samurai using guns.
avatar
Kaeoschassis: Know exactly what you mean about the locks. Anytime I make a new character in anything they have to be able to lockpick. It's even worse in the newer Fallouts since they have to have lockpicking AND hacking. We all have our little gaming quirks I suppose.
Fallout's a joke when it comes to power levels, though. By the time I was done with either one, I had maxed everything. I couldn't have failed a skill check if I tried.

That's not even exclusive to the newer ones, either. So long as you give your character a high intelligence score to start with, you can easily max whatever you skills you want. It didn't stop me from having a good time, I have to say, but it's something you might have expected the newer games to fix.

Far as that goes, I ranked those two as two of Bethesda's three strikes. (Aside from the obvious of them keeping old Fallout off GOG, of course.)

CarrionCrow: Only have one other time. It involved hatred, self-loathing, elephant shit, pigeon sex, processed cheese and riding crops.
And it's a review made of extremely unique components. ;-)

foxworks: Same time period each play through so there's no changing it. I played it in '97 and again a few years back. Still a fun, enjoy able game. For $1.19 - helluvadeal ;-)
Only if one owns the rest of the games. (~_^)

avatar
Ragnarblackmane: Funny you should mention this, I'm in the process of trying to make a GOGMix of all the games that feature Dwarves ;)

Well, if someone wanted to try the series out, what would you recommend first?
By series I mean that bundle in general.
The Phantasmagoria one? Definitely the first one, and not only because it's the first in the series.

Fox does. And so do I.

Good or bad, my writing almost always does.

avatar
HypersomniacLive: Sorry, got the memo late, all is rectified now! :-)

Given how you tend to see things that aren't there, I say you made the right choice. ;-P

GOG's Winter Sale? ;-P

Not surprised, IIRC, no dwarves star in them. :-P

Would agree with Hyper. If you want an actual adventure game, go with Phantasmagoria 1. 2's worth it for the trainwreck factor, but not much else.

Eh, Fallout 3 I did not enjoy much, mostly for the awful engine. New Vegas is wonderful, and I rate it tremendously highly, especially if you include the DLC - bought it late, got them all with it. The engine is still awful, but Obsidian's writing and characters could save ANYTHING.
avatar
CarrionCrow: All right....speed game's down, so it's time to figure out what kind of character to make for Shadowrun: Dragonfall. Can go tech or magic, but going both at once will be like kicking myself in the ass power-wise.
Dwarven Street Samurai, what else?

Thanks for the input. I'll have to update my tradelist and see if anyone is willing to trade it from the bundle deal,or maybe it will show up separately as a flash for 90% like Pixeljunk did. One can hope.

Wasn't a fan of Fallout 3 and there was still too much Bethesda in New Vegas dragging Obsidian down.
Looking forward to Pillars of Eternity so I can get a game that's just them.
(And hopefully, with a good amount of quality control and bug killing given that they're not having to dance to anyone else's tune timeframe-wise. If PoE comes out chock-full of bugs like other things Obsidian's infamous for, I'll have to figure it's been them all along and keep that in mind for any possible future purchases.)

Not a problem, and thanks for the reminder. Can't remember if I've done a dwarf run through either of those titles.

Somehow the Viking clan thing wasn't as, well, disturbing. ;)

That's true and it lead to some cool new avatars. But this is also quite fun :D
(I always need to check where to start reading in a thread to see if it is not my own post)

No... but honestly, this one made me giggle more. (Which means it was a pretty frightening amount of giggling, since I laughed a lot at the Viking clan, too.)
