The guy got a red card, which will keep him from playing next game and Ghana was given a penalty. Ghana missed the penalty, end of story.
It's not that pretty to watch but it's also mainly instinct at work, and i don't think it detracts from their good campaign, so yeah, congrats Uruguai.

I maybe speaking out of hate, since they pulled something similar with Costa Rica's classification, but I don't think what he did was out of instinct, and I think Uruguai can manage without Luis Suarez so the red card didn't meant alot, atleast for me.

Ah ok, i get it ;)

Yes, but the fact is the player was punished as was the team, just like it says in the rules. Like i said, it may not be classy but it's a desperate last resort. And Ghana was given the chance to benefit from it, except they failed.
Anyway, i suspect most players would have done the same thing in that situation, and i can't say i blame them.

Indeed, you have a split second to choose and he chose the 80% chance of that guy making the PK and his team being eliminated or the 100% of him not getting a red card and they scoring. He chose it and became a hero for his team. It is stuff done like that which makes the world cup great.
In closing, good game Uruguay, that Forlan goal was sexy as usual.
Tomorrow will be more world cup epicness: Spain vs Paraguay/Germany vs Argentina.
Spain will make it as long as they realize they aren't the Spain that always chokes in the damn world cup and disappoint the nation all the time.

Well it did for me. It's the same guy who took off like being stricken by lightning against South Africas Goalkeeper to get a penalty.
You can also see how he moved his head forward, trying to make it appear as if he defended with his head instead of his hand - that's NOT instinct, it's acting. Not to mention his "What? Me? What have I done?" gesture following the red card. Puts him in the same league with Thierry Henry in the qualifications against Ireland.
Uruguai was done and buried in overtime. Their first shot on goal was in the 114. minute. So yes, Ghana should have made it through. Still, Gyan missed his first penalty, so I can live with it. But congratulations aren't in order here.
It doesn't matter in the end. They'll get the Netherlands as next team and that Uruguai I saw, won't stand a snowball chance in hell against it.

Actually, it's what makes it so bad. If you can't win, you'll refer to cheating to get a second chance and you'll make it through.

I don't care what players do as long as they (and their teams) get punished according to the rules.
It's nothing like what Henry did. It's not like Maradona's hand of god. It's not like any of those situations where players get away with their stunts and their teams benefit from it without consequences. Uruguai, and Suarez, got punished. Ghana missed their chance, period. Get over it.
Uruguai won fair and square, according to the rules all players and all teams play by, without any 'aid' from the referee or any shit like that, so congratulations are very much in order.
If you tell me that you don't care much for Suarez or for players in general who do this or that i can accept that, but that has nothing to do with Uruguai's merit in moving on.
How you feel about how well Ghana played it's neither here or there. Sometimes isn't the best team who wins, it's the team who makes less mistakes, or the team that doesn't flinch when it really matters, and that's what happened.

So cheating is okay as long as you get caught? One might see it that way, I don't.
Yes, it's not always the best team that wins. But you can win fair and square or in a cheesey way. For me, Uruguai took the second.
I wish people wouldn't get so hung up on that one situation. As Namur says, football is a sport with a built in justice system, so to speak. Suarez used illegal means to stop that goal, and he and his teammates (who did not do anything wrong) were penalized according to the rules. And that should be the end of that.
All football matches are after all full of situations where players break the rules, and where this has consequences for the outcome of the match. We just don't notice these situations to the same extent, because the circumstances are different.

What Suarez did was not "cheating" in the least. He chose to sacrifice himself for the chance that Ghana would miss their penalty.
He was right. Good for him and the Uruguayans, too bad for Ghana.
Most players in that same situation, including me, would do exactly the same thing.
So get off your high horse.
I think he did cheat, he got caught and he was penalized for it. Red carded and having a penalty shot against your team for your transgressions is about the highest price you can pay as a player. Ghana missing the shot is a problem on their end, not on the uruguayans.
It may not seem "fair" but that's the way the rules are written. You're not supposed to miss penalty shots, it's the easiest shot a player can score. A lone goalkeeper is there to give the opposing team a fighting chance and the amount of pressure and nerves on a player are high, but more often than not, a goal will be scored.
Had Suarez NOT been caught, then I would understand the complaints. It would have been another blot on the tournament, adding to the "USE THE CAMERAS DAMMIT!!" debate, but he was and he paid the price.
Germany seem to be on a roll, don't feel so bad now they turned over the Argentinians the same as they did us.
Good to watch, and their next game could be against Spain I think.
If they beat Spain by at least two goals, then I think we have a new world champion.
Chances are likely it'll be the Netherlands vs Germany.

Very impressive. But I hope it doesn't mean we have another excuse for not sorting out english football.
PS/ And Klose is one world cup goal behind Ronaldo now...
