MobiusArcher: Pierogi are Polish? Poland is now officially my second favorite country.
Pierogi are known in Poland since XIII century. But it's not known exactly if they were originally made in Poland or imported from Far East, because there is lack of historical sources about that. Also, Russians, Ukrainians and Lithuanians have their own types of pierogi, like Russian pielmieni.

keeveek: This is funny guys. When you send a gift to a black guy, a basket with two watermelons and KFC basket it's offensive.

I would be HAPPY AS HELL if someone sent me such a gift :P

There was even a stand up show of Mexican Carlos Mencia laughing his ass of this american prudence. He said he would be DELIGHTED if someone gifted him a taco, a tequila, red beans, etc. :D

Also, as a Polish citizen, I would be pleased if someone gifted me vodka, bigos, pierogi and kielbasa in one basket. But it's just me.
The reason is historical in nature. I think it's mainly an American thing, I'm not sure that it would apply in Canada, Australia or the UK. Or any other part of the world for that matter.

A lot of it has to do with the comments that white folks would make to keep people of color in their place. To be honest, I have absolutely no idea how it is that chicken wings and watermelons came to be so tightly associated with racist jokes.
What have you done? Why have you black-boxed the sites? You could percive where it will lead. There is such obvious connection to racism... you were fool to do it.
Come on, people, really?
hedwards you know what's good in racist jokes?

THEY'RE SO DAMN FUNNY! :P

Vitek Yeah.. I've selected black layout for forums. And guess what. The font is white.

I love some off color jokes, even ones about whites/pollacks/etc(which I am btw)...as long as it's said/used in the right context and isn't trying to be outright demeaning. :)

GameRager, of course! There is always a right time for joking, and there is obvious time and place when and where some jokes are not suitable.

But most color people I know have hilarious sens of humor :-) They know many great Polack jokes as well, of course! ;-)

It's ok sometimes but there are some who are so sensitive/snooty/etc they find any such jokes make one telling/liking them racist which isn't true. And some als use any sort of thing someone does involving race to garner PR like Al Sharpton & the like.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be a hypocrite if I pretended like I didn't make all manner of offensive joke from time to time, but I've got a pretty good idea of what's going to wash in the US and I definitely mock groups I belong to as much as all the others combined.

That being said, it's a bit like why folks in the US are supposed to use Pole now rather than Polack. It isn't inherently offensive, but so many folks used it to imply that the individual was dim witted that it's not worth using. Which surprised me a bit to learn because that's the term I was brought up to use in the same fashion that one would use Italian, Irish or Japanese.
We have a similar thing in Polish. Calling a Russian person "Ruski" is considered derogatory or offensive. But at the same time, this is what the Russians call themselves in Russian.
