You definitely deserve the 4th star for being The Destroyer of News Posts :P

I'd be up for a $9.99 GOG.

1) The boss battle thread reminded me of the time I almost beat Crawmerax from Borderlands. I got him down to a tiny sliver of health, then I got knocked out right in front of him. I managed to get him down to less than a pixel of health during "fight for your life" mode - at this point, he had so little health that his health bar looked empty. I'm sure that only a few more shots would have killed him. Then I ran out of ammo; for all my guns. There was nothing I could do. I just sat there, dying...
I'd like to be in for Hotline Miami. I missed it when all the hoopla was a'hooping, but it looks one-of-a-kind.

1. Once, a friend invited me over to try to "make contact" with a teenage boy hair-in-face silent type that was staying at his house for some reason. The kid liked games, so I asked him about them. He pulled out Goldeneye, and we played splitscreen deathmatch. I killed him exactly once over the next hour or so. That felt really really really good. The other eighty gajillion times he killed me before I knew what direction I was facing, what weapon I had in my hands, etc.

The only communicating we did was over my dead body.

Cheers.
I'm in for the 9.99$ code

Most of the questions I don't have much of an answer for. I was however part of some research at Carnegie Mellon during college.

Only one got published. So yeah I did some research into robotics and artificial intelligence. What am I doing now? Slinging web code of course ;)
Firstly, allow me to congratulate you on your upcoming "esteemed" status! One of my first days here you offered to gift me a game - I've not forgotten your generosity and indeed have striven to live up to your standard. In addition to that, you've been super helpful when it comes to technical issues. But mostly, your sense of humor is most appreciated. So four stars seems totally appropriate and I look forward to seeing your fifth ;-)

Questions, questions, questions - personally I'd have asked different ones but then again, I'm a woman and a mother ;-p

1) Tell me of an "Oh God, how did I fail that bad" or "In your face!" experience you had in an FPS game.

i don't play FPS so this question is moot.

2) What control scheme that has gone at least up to the prototype stage would you like to use for a game that doesn't support it, and how would it make the game more entertaining/fun.

Huh?

3) Are you (or were you) active in a research field? How did you become involved into it?

No but my sister has a doctorate in reproductive endocrinology - she was working on the "male pill" and missed attending my first wedding due to the need to cut off some rat balls and examine them. Not sure this counts as an answer but it was far too choice not to share with this crowd ;-p

4) One classic and one new release on GOG that really excited you, and why?

New - The Night of the Rabbit - drools. Unfortunately I am gonna have to wait until the budget allows for a $20 expense. Old classic - well did you want a list? I have to say that finding Myst games in a download instead of running off a CD was a revelation but there are so many others here on GOG I'd be remiss in not listing them all so I'll keep it short and sweet - like one special kiss.

5) Do you know about the GOGWiki? Why haven't you been active there yet? What page of the Wiki do you think you could "adopt", to make sure it's correct and up-to-date?

I do know about the GogWiki but time! Time is at a premium and the general discussion forum is like crack - do I need say more?

HIB question - I bought two. One for myself and one for my son - he'd had several of the games on his wish-list as did I, so I splurged. Of course my uber- understanding hubby might look askance when the bill comes round, but he knows how happy it makes me to play and how happy it makes me to gift - GOG members aren't the only ones that benefit from my need to make peeps happy. Truth be told, the familial connection is a prime motivator for me to be here - well that and my love for games in general. We all need fun in our lives and there is no better truth in that ~smiles~

I guess I'll be in for a ten-buck game if it please you and random gods smile upon me ;-)

In for a GOG code captain! And I'm going to answer a question you didn't ask, "what do I think the stars represent."

0 = private
1 = sergeant
2 = officer (lieutenant)
3 = captain
4 = colonel
5 = general
In for the $9.99 GOG codes.

3) Are you (or were you) active in a research field?
I was rather active in the field of medical research (vaccines and infectious diseases) for 10 years or so, co-authoring more than 40 published articles.

How did you become involved into it?
Easy. Dropped out of med school after 4.5 years.
Thanks for this awesome giveaway! +1 and congrats on the milestone!

4) One classic and one new release on GOG that really excited you, and why?

New Release

- Hotline Miami (the music, the setting, the gameplay, pretty much everything, NEON LIGHTS!!!)

Classic

- Clive Barker's Undying (my all times horror/combat game, loved it when I was a kid, it gave me some of the scariest nightmares but it was worth it! love Clive's work so that game pretty much is the combination of reading books and killing things with keyboard and mice!)

Once again thanks! I'll be joining for the $9.99 bonus code.

I'm confused? Was there a specific post that said GOG stopped giving five stars to long-time members?

That story rocks, thanks for sharing.

Grins ;-) She renovates houses these days - too bad, huh? But my niece graduated from med school last week so someone in the family carries the Rx banner into the war!
Entering for a GOG bonus code....

I'm excited about Wizardy 8. I bought a copy when I was a kid (which I lost when my childhood pal took it with him). I never got into it at that time, b/c it was too difficult for me. It still seems very difficult, but fun, after having watched some let's plays. I would be happy to see!

Also, for a new release, I liked the Faster Than Light a lot. I had never done a roguelike before and that was a nice casual, but complex, spaceship management sim. Awesome.

I was being silly. The thread title is "can_we_please_stop_giving_five_stars_to_everything". I was suggesting the thread's goal was to prohibit members getting five stars, not just game reviews.

Oh! Ok - too many algebra exercises tonight ;-p
Congrats on the (nearly) 1000 rep. Count me in for the $9.99 GOG code.

3) Not active in a research field though I did do a fair amount of work with/for the "brains". Got involved by being on the bean counting side of things. Never again..
