Top disappointment 2016

It rhymes with "Limited Supply"

You guessed it right. ;)
In no particular order:

- Titan Quest Anniversary Edition
- Grim Dawn
- Cossacks 3
Not exactly a top 5 since I only played 2 games that were released in 2016, but anyway, here's my list:

● Hard Reset Redux: gorgeous visuals, simple and fun gameplay, it was a nice surprise since I didn't know about the game prior to the GOG release
● The Curious Expedition: great roguelike set in 19th century and one of the most interesting casts in a video game (along with Martian Dreams' cast)

To add some more:

● Titan Quest: the best alternative to Diablo II in my opinion, and one of those games that i finished more times through the years than i care to admit. It's also my most insta-gifted game (4 GOG copies plus my retail version since i don't need it anymore). I haven't played it in 2016 though.
● Besiege: great sandbox game even if it's still in InDev status (so technically it's not a 2016 release). It's so addicting that I can't stop playing. Help! :P
Hmmm....
Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun - really like that game and it is lots of fun. So glad I'm not yet finished with it
Stardew Valley - Missed a lot of sleep because "just one more day"
Obduction - really beautiful
Difficult.

Civilization VI
XCOM 2
Battlefield 1
Tyranny

There's games I haven't or have barely gotten to yet that I'd like to try though like the aforementioned Halcyon 6, Shadow Tactics, Banner Saga 2, Hitman, Total War Warhammer, Overwatch (just got it but not sure about long term appeal yet), Stellaris (hoping this becomes a 2016 GOTY for me eventually but it needs to expand first I think)

Overall I can't say it's a bad year :)

Edit: ow, on GOG, my bad. Tyranny then I guess ^^

Xanadu Next

A wonderful, brilliant journey from start to finish. I initially didn't have too much hope for this title, picked it up mostly because it was from the same dev as the Trails series, but... damn. Gameplay is polished to a sheen, the story isn't complex but it's unique and well written, the art style is beautiful and musically it's a complete treat. It's a masterpiece, definitely among the best games I've ever played.

Aragami

Plot-wise the devs really dropped the ball at the end, but it's otherwise a pretty solid game: endearing characterization, fun and diverse mechanics, outside boss fights its difficulty is quite consistent even as you gain new skills, and with the exception of one frustrating and annoying boss fight, they're also well integrated into the general mechanics of the game: you'll still be hiding and stalking your way to victory. Also, don't care what anyone else says: Yamiko is the cutest thing ever.

The Flame in the Flood

It looks great, plays even better, it rewards preparation and forethought but a random string of bad decisions can still wreck your life and make you fear for your life. Just like a good survival game should be.

Pharaonic

The description of Pharaonic being a "2.5D Dark Souls" is technically accurate but it doesn't reflect the sheer polish of this game's combat, and the removal of a dimension of movement just makes combat even tighter. Simply put, I like this game even more than the actual Dark Souls, nevermind all the various other copycats.

Anima: Gate of Memories

Remember those action games from the late-PSX to early-PS2 era? this is one such game, nevermind its 2016 release date. Its gameplay mechanics lack many of the "niceties" we've come to expect in a post-DMC and post-Dark Souls world... but that's exactly why it's so refreshing. Now, it's not a masterpiece by any means, and voice acting ranges from bad to "oh God my ears, why!?"... but I do honestly think it deserves more attention and better reviews than it's enjoyed so far. Curse you, Internet.

Honorable mention:
Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun

I really didn't want to put this in here, seeing all the attention and gushing reviews it's currently getting all over the 'net, but... yeah, completely deserved, and if you have any interest in the genre, you owe it to yourself to get this. Come on! there's even a demo if you shameful heathen are still unconvinced. Join the cult! we have cookies.
Top 5 in no particular order:
Darkest Dungeon
Samorost 3
Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition
Shadow Warrior 2
Transport Fever

Honorable mentions:
Epistory - Typing Chronicles
Pan-Pan
Xanadu Next
Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun
Corpse Party
VA-11 Hall-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action
Grim Dawn
Firewatch
Flame in the Flood
Bombshell

Sheesh, and I thought I'd keep it short.
Stardew Valley
Gnomoria
Grim Dawn
Darkest Dungeon
Subterrain
I've only played two, and finished neither, but I have really enjoyed them both so far.

Firewatch

Shadow Tactics

This is pretty much what I can think of as far as GOG releases go (top one being my favorite):

-Inside
-Hyper Light Drifter
-Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight
-Owlboy
-The Witness

Runner Ups:

-Butcher
-Pony Island

Fairfox: Was meanin' to pick this up, but teh opinions put me off, plus I got kinda spoiled on it an' it seems not worth if you kno what happens?
Yeah, I could see it not being too great, if you know what's coming. That said, I'm really not that far in, and I've really enjoyed just exploring. I really like the art style, so I find the whole environment quite engaging.

It's a little expensive for a game that has pretty much zero replay value.
I'm sorry but I can't list more than 3 as being "the top" of 2016 new releases

Tyranny

Shadow Tactics BOTS

Halcyon 6

Alhough I'm actually enjoying "Master of Orion" too, it probably doesn't deserve to be listed , on one side because it's "just" a remake, on the other because it actually did not meet the expectations ( being a true MOO3 rather than a visually improved MOO 1/2 hybrid)

catpower1980: As the year is reaching its end, it's the season of various tops so out of curiosity, I checked MaGog with brand new games released in 2016 (including the "in dev" ones) and was impressed that we actually had 158 releases so far.

So, if you want to point out some 2016 games which you liked and think that they deserve more exposure, you can make a Top5 (or top 10 if you have lots of time to play) with some comments. ;)

Here's the list by date of release:

GUN is missing on that list. It was released here on June 23rd.
