Excite.com
Web search and news. It was my fave.

Stupid google and their actually useful stupid searches. Man.

KasperHviid: Maybe you could keep comments like this to the GG threads? See, I go to this site mostly for gaming. Surely you can relate?

Spectre: Why shouldn't people be informed of the bad behaviour from the hacks at RPS?
That's why I asked emob to inform me. :P

Perhaps you can? I'm curious. Is this just about GG?

Sob, hic, gimme back, gimme back, gimme back! Waaah :'(

Spoiler No1. Don't click it.
Spoiler No2. The original, as of now gone, website, was with real lolitas, not overaged third rate hags.

I bit my tongue over their commentary for as long as I could. For a while they provided pretty good info and critiques of games and game development. But their soapbox derby articles finally made me pull the plug on that link. Haven't gone to RPS in a year or two. If I want to go to a site a read about games, I should be able to go to RPS. If I want to read a 40,000 word dissertation on the ills of capitalism, I'll go to the Huffington Post.

Nope. This is my thread about websites that we no longer go to... and the potential reasons why. It's my thread, it's completely subjective, and if you don't like my opinions, you're more than capable of not reading my posts and threads... just like I'm capable of not going to RPS.

This planet is full of lots of people with lots of ideas and opinions. Surely if I could suffer the leftist, fedora wearing nonsense of RPS then you can suffer the occasional rant from a cynical jerk such as myself.
onemorelevel.com

It was probably my first "real" (heh) foray into PC gaming. Played a lot of cool games there but gave up on the site when some of the new uploads had viruses, that must've been back in 2010 I guess? I know it's still around but I would rather play a full length game than a simple Flash game these days.

On that note, Kongregate or whichever of those other Flash portals had that one Stickman series that was inspired by Hitman.
I'll take the 'obsolete' as 'abandoned' more than anything else.

One of my favorite sites of recent memory is RinkWorks, and it uses a lot of obsolete HTML (v3? v4?) to display all of it's stuff. But it's still fun to go through :P
Reality Pump.

I am a keen Two Worlds fan, and always thought they would be TW3.

I can hardly describe how much I hanker for this studio. I want Two Worlds Three, really!

Injecting stupid politics into the site with articles like "Deep Silver Promote Dead Island With Appalling Statue" or "Misogyny, Sexism, And Why RPS Isn’t Shutting Up".
tvguide.com - stopped going when they got too commercial and also made obsolete because we finally upgraded to digital cable.

askjeeves.com, yahoo.com, and dogpile.com - search engines I no longer use

mapquest.com - last time I used it, it took me on a joyride for something that should have been pretty straightforward.

wimp.com - was a great repository for really funny clips and flash games until the owner either sold it or found religion.

cats4gold.com - when I was planning on trading in my gold for some cats...

A few gaming sites that were involved in some dodgy shit.

9gag - dumb meme overload and preachy memes that don't cite their sources. Im an academic for fuck sakes, CITE YOUR SOURCES DAMNIT!

facebook - Because facebook is creepy and serves as a platform for vapid self indulgence and narcissism while Zuckerberg sells your info to advertisers.

Badass of the Week - Some moderatly funny writing that was repeated ad nausium for every article since its inception.

cracked - Same as above. Also given to pandering and clickbaity soapboxing.

and

Pornhub - Too many blisters. It offended other patrons in the internet cafe.

Like 12 years ago I thought that it was the shiznix, then I learned how it made money (advertising on stolen content). So I dropped that bitch right quick.

RCRD_LBL (rcrdlbl.com) - This falls into the category of "no longer exists" (even the Internet Archive's not displaying any cached versions of it anymore -- something about "robots.txt"). It's bad enough that I've yet to find another extant music site that's at all similar (i.e., an indie music blog centered around legal, free promotional singles and on-site streaming); but what really sucks about it being wiped from the face of the Internet is that I lost virtually all of the music I downloaded from the 'net over the course of something like two or three years, and a fair bit of it I liked, but don't necessarily remember what it was called (song titles, artist names, etc.), and I now have no way to trawl through the site's archives to compile list of stuff to try to track down on Amazon, iTunes, or what-have-you. :/

various browser games sites (primarily ArmorGames.com and NotDoppler.com) - Because Flash games have their limitations, and if I've got some fun games that I DON'T have to play in a browser window (particularly if I've payed money for them), I'd generally rather spend time on those.

TV Tropes (tvtropes.org) - Meh. I binged, wallowed, I gorged myself, I got over it. It's lost whatever narcotic power it once held over me.

Giant in the Playground Forums (giantitp.com/forums) - I was only ever a lurker (never even registered there), but I used to browse the threads in the 3rd ed./Pathfinder forums somewhat regularly, but I haven't had a gaming group in around four years (and it was a pretty sad group, at that), so visiting D&D-related sites started to seem rather pointless after a couple years.
