I find that I'm not a big fan of 'athletic' mechs, typical to several anime series. Strangely it just doesn't work for me. It's as if they don't have any momentum. They're all over the place. I definitely prefer the comparatively slow and lumbering mechs of the battletech universe, which comes across as more genuine to me. Blue Gender is the exception though: those mechs felt right, like there was significant momentum behind their movements. They did start to get a bit athletic towards the end though.

I think the Voltron Lions still rule the school.

Oh yeah, this is it! A mech must looks heavy and... you know metalic. Someone mentioned the cybernator. Then there is the mechs from Metal Warriors on SNES. That one was my favorite sidescrolling shooter as child.

awalterj: Missionforce Cyberstorm Juggernaut with a 280mm ATX gun and plasma mortar, call it the "Recycler" if you will because anything it encounters will turn into soda can material.
Darvond: Someone else remembers this game? http://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/missionforce_cyberstorm
I'm too lazy to setup a virtual Win98 environment on my Windows 7 64bit system so I currently can't play the game and hope that it will one day be added to the GOG catalog. It's a high quality classic and one of the few hex based strategy games I would enjoy playing again. I'm not having fun with the General series and have decided to abandon my playthroughs of Panzer General 1 & 2, Pacific General and even Fantasy General and a bunch of other games (e.g. Battle Worlds Kronos). But MissionForce: Cyberstorm is a game that I'd like to revisit because it's more unique and doesn't feel like all those same-same hex TBS out there. It's simply a cool and good old game and it belongs here.

awalterj: Yes, and we are not alone! Considering this game has become sadly obscure, it's great to see that the GOG wishlist already has 652 votes:

Actually, Cyberstorm is quite unique in that it is a hybrid, being possible to be played as an RTS, a TBS, and an ATB, if I recall.http://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/missionforce_cyberstorm

I think you are referring to the lesser known sequel (Cyberstorm 2: Corporate Wars) because the first game (MissionForce: Cyberstorm) has turn based combat only. No idea why they decided to make the sequel different than the first game ("never change a working system etc and so on".
