I remember having the same problem when I played the game, circa 2 years ago. I solved it by trying different versions of Wine (you can easily install as many as you want with PoL) until I found one that didn't produce this ugly bug.

MikeMaximus: Hmm well that should work with that version, i'm not sure what else you can try.

I'm not sure why your GLSL Support is disabled though, you can try turning that back on in the PlayOnLinux configuration to see if that makes an difference.
