So, I've noticed since upgrading to Windows 10 that any game using DirectX 8 or below, the brightness settings in these games fails to work. Does anybody here know why, and is there a way to fix this issue? Anybody else have this issue?

DirectX 9 games and above are unaffected.

Yes, I've re-installed my drivers many times, updated them, wiped them clean and freshly installed them even. It's definitely Windows 10. I don't recall having this issue on Windows 8.1 but I wasn't on that OS for very long.
Which games for example?

Any games using DirectX 8 or below it seems, the games I played when I noticed this pattern where Battle Realms, Unreal, Unreal 2, Unreal Tournament, Deus Ex and more.

I switched Unreal to 3DFX mode, and it worked fine. OpenGL games seem fine as well.

I have Battle Realms installer lying around somewhere. I guess I'll go and test it tomorrow when I have free time.
Bump. Does anybody else have this issue?

I have Battle Realms and Windows 10. Care if you tell me how to check for the issue? I'll be happy to do so for you.

Ah, simple. Go into the game (not the menu) and simply try adjusting the game's brightness under its options menu.

Brightness doesn't go any higher or lower, even if I do apply it.

My guess is that it's probably more driver related than DirectX, gpumanufacturers gradually remove depricated features from their gpu's and drivers, hence all the shadow and lighting problems of DirectX 8 games (e.g. Pandorra Tomorrow, Dungeon Siege).

Oh, it very will could be. I'll never rule out driver issues with these kinds of unfortunate game issues. It also appears I wasn't 100% correct. Since I had some free time I decided to try a few other games.

*Ground Control, which I think uses DX 7, has a working gamma option.

*BloodRayne, which uses DX8.1, has a working brightness option. This is a good example of a game that needs it too, because the default is extremely bright and ugly.

*AquaNox, which uses DX8 I believe, does NOT have working brightness anymore.

So not only might it be driver related or OS related, it is also possibly engine related.

Also, regarding Unreal, UT and Deus Ex. If you install DX9/DX10 via fan patches, your brightness will work again. But unless a game has a fan patch or converts the game's renderer, it seems it's fucked. Kinda worrying because like I said, some games are way to bright on my monitor and look whited out.
