Fort McMurray is a city a few hundred kilometres north of me. Currently, the entire city - 80,000 people - are evacuated due to a wildfire. Some of the pictures are stunning to say the least:

To compound the situation, there is only one highway in or out of Fort Mac, and the road south has been closed intermittently over the last couple of days because of fires. The other option is to head north, further into the bush! [Edit]There are actually two highways south, and both are jammed. 881 isn't much of a highway either[/Edit]

I've got a friend in Fort Mac who is a fire fighter. His wife is heading north, while he stays to fight fires.

Provides some perspective as to how small some of my problems really are...

Not that it is of any consolation to you or those near you, but your thread title reminded me that a wildlife park near my town built a huge wooden rollercoaster called just that - Wildfire. They're opening it this summer, but have yet to actually get a permit for building it, so they might have to tear it down again.

Not to make light of everyone suffering but, this looks exactly like every day of my life, everything in flames, hopelessness. So my question would be;

Latest update says 1,600 homes lost. Nearly 25,000 acres burned. Amazing, but so far, no deaths or injuries reported.

Wildfires are horrible.

My hopes and prayers go out to all the residents of Fort MikeMurphey.


But seriously, I hope everyone's okay. Crazy there's that big a fire esp. this early in the season.

Dude all of Alberta is this dry, just one idiot throwing a cigarette somewhere and Calgary and Edmonton could end up like this too!

When I was a kid, fire accidents were most devastating events happened in my hometown. There was even one that burned down residential area so big you can build probably 8 to 10 football stadium there, and even now more than 15 years later some area is still not rebuilt. Everytime I hear about fire my heart skip a beat.

I really hope everyone is ok and fire can be put down quickly if not already
