I wouldn't mind buying it again (i got 2 copies from ancient times, plus 2 more copies that i gifted to "friends" back in the day). I mean, Diablo 2 LOD is in my top 5 games of all time! But i never like throwing money in the dumpster or inside the fireplace, if you know what i mean.

I don't like the new graphics and their depiction of much less gore. Or the godawful new artwork (especially the barbarian is !@#$ and the amazone like a tr... nevermind). The extra layer of DRM. The more frequent ladder season resets. And other stuff.

What is this game worth buying for? For an old timer, who appreciates good and old and wants to relive bygone eras; not delve into modern glitterdust?

Also playing on updated servers online without all that botting that goes on the current servers if you chose to go that route on top of the base game being updated for modern resolutions with the updated graphics disabled.

Nobody's stopping you from using your old D2 & LoD copies, if you have already them; or play them if say you can go find an old copy of those from EBay, Amazon, retail, or somewhere.

I know I'll likely be playing the old D2 version with LOD, until that Remaster drops in price a bit - like how I buy most games.

I think there's many reasons old and new fans will buy this Remaster.

With the D2R version - you can literally switch b/t both modes in this remaster, which old fans and new fans can both check out. I did this a lot when playing Halo MCC on PC when I had PC Game Pass and I thought it was pretty cool to switch on-the-fly and see how the game looks NOW remastered/redone and what it looked like BACK then.

Many of the new fans will probably play D2R w/ the new graphics and high-resolution support. It gets them over the "this game looks old" hump that (unfortunately and probably) some modern gamers likely will have w/ the game looking like it does from back in the day, in 800x600 (without Mods).

And for old-school fans that get D2R - they'll likely just run the game in its old 800x600 and look in D2R. I hope the game has the old graphics and can bump higher res's, if possible - as that'd be great to run on 1080p on my modern monitor.

Sure, I don't care for the DRM in the new version - but that's par for the course these days with AAA companies and whatnot; and especially w/ companies using client-launcher app programs.

If Activision is ever willing to do so - I'd love to see both D2 with LOD: Old version hit GOG; and also D2: Resurrected hit GOG....in the DRM-FREE style.

A faithful graphics update and functioning cheat protection for the multiplayer is pretty much all I want, so I might be good.
