The Heretic & Hexen pack is the same that's been around for ages. Still missing Portal of Praevus and Heretic II. Heretic II was the worst imho though. I've not once regretted stepping away from GOG, I only stick around for the forums, lurking or otherwise.

This isn't the worst year of my life, but its definitely the worst year for my country in my lifetime by a LONG shot. I'm sure it has been for many others as well. 2021 is going to be worse, guaranteed, and optimism for it is ignorance.

the way i look at it, GOG had very little to do with the decision made by CDPR higher ups to insert DRM into CDPR's newest game.
Yeeees, the social media manager seems to have acted like a utter nitwit announcing that one game over the chinese version of twitter, but his actions do not reflect on GOG as a whole. Of course, GOG predictably backpedaled so far that they jumped too far the other way in trying to appease everyone. I don't like this one bit.

However

GOG makes little enough money as it is compared to other storefronts. No other storefront that I know of has many of GOG's fine titles, including that I have been saving towards for literal years and gradually acquiring them (a massive amount of that through the generosity of others! I've also been tossing most of my non-bundle-purchase money GOG's way.)

IF GOG loses money as a subsidiary of CDPR, the board is more likely to either a) close it b) spin it off or c) sell it. GOG doesn't really make enough to make a go of it on its own in any sort of meaningful way as a AAA store (the way they do now) without the bankroll and reputation of CDPR behind it. If the current issues of attracting AAA games seems bad, just wait until the company becomes much smaller.

Since it is the current leaders who have been the only "DRM is generally bad" voices in the industry with their own storefront, the outlook for games and gamers as a whole would be infinitely worse. The same goes for if they sell it off to another company instead. Would MS's or EA's bigwigs care one hoot about DRM? YES--but only as long as it took them to insert DRM into everything in the store.

The only way to keep either of these Very Bad scenarios from happening is to support GOG more than ever with our purchases, while making sure GOG's Directors know we are quit unhappy with their PR department and some associated decisions.

As such, I intend to make some purchases that i can't really afford right now, trusting that I will be able to afford them retroactively--all with the ultimate goal of keeping GOG--who, despite their (sometimes glaring) flaws, remains one of the best--if not the best--storefronts in the marketplace in terms of general ideals and offline installers and OLD titles that no other publisher bothers to touch--literally saving many games from the dustbin of history for those of us without the know-how, resources, or patience to get a DOS or 8 / 16-bit program running on a modern 64-bit PC.

Yes, and I have all, including the missing bits on disc. However, it was nice to have some turn up at GOG, and less fuss for me to revisit them again. I was never going to buy them at Steam, while I had discs already.

I have a lot of games at GOG, so have made what you could describe as a serious investment in them. So while I did seriously consider stepping away from them (but never completely) earlier in the year, because of various aspects that were displeasing me and making my usage annoying, I did come up with some work-a-rounds to improve things, so my absence at the store, and even the forum a bit, was only for a while. I've not regretted changing my mind.

Maybe you misunderstood what I meant by 2021 really shining ... that was solely in relation to GOG.

That said, my own country has dealt fairly well with COVID, with our politicians generally doing the right thing, so I fully expect 2021 to be a better year here, certainly once acceptable vaccinations roll out. Perhaps the worst ongoing thing is either the uncertainty or the lack of overseas travel or incoming tourists. We are mostly back to normal aside from that. That's not to ignore the heavy cost we now have to pay financially and emotionally, which will be ongoing for a long time. And then there is the ongoing risk of something else ... more drought, bushfires, floods, etc ... hell even another pandemic. We ain't out of the woods yet.

In any case, you and many others around the world have my sympathy and well wishes, and I do hope things turn a corner and improve significantly enough for you. All the best!

What the hell are you talking about? I've had this avatar for years and I've been on GOG longer than you have. Only person I can think of who has an infowars avatar is rtcvb32 and he's been here since 2013 and has had his infowars avatar for years. I've only seen one guy posting links and he doesn't have an avatar.

I don't post political links. I was frankly fine with their decision years ago to ban political discussions. What I wasn't fine with was their fucking hypocritical enforcement of that rule. Maybe they're overwhelmed, maybe they don't care. Don't know... fuck 'em all.

I'm sure when you take into account a giant number of 'cases' that shouldn't be in there, as well as compare per 100,000 vs the size of a nation then you'll get very different statistics (assuming the numbers are right, 71 per 100,000, but 94% are confirmed to have comorbitities, so it's more like 5 per 100,000) . Afterall if we took say Poland and say they were doing the best job ever and have only 1 death but only have 1000 citizens; I'm sure the numbers would look very different.

Then there's the comorbidities... And an article i saw saying there were no excess deaths as of the result of the pandemic. (but anything questioning the narrative has to be removed, while anything pushing fear is promoted... not suspicious at all)

Yep had this avatar for years. I'm very anti-censorship; naturally censorship is ramping up to ungodly levels among big-tech.

If/when things return to what i'd consider normal or livable, i'd rather be the cute cuddly wombat...

And it's not just about number of deaths or infections either.
We have not lost doctors or nurses of other health workers and our hospital/medical system has coped well. And most sections of Australia have been able to mostly get back to business as kind of normal (overseas tourists etc excepted) in a fairly short space of time ... relatively speaking. Then there is the outbreaks which we are now getting on top of pretty quickly ... virtually all of which start from people returned from overseas. Most of our deaths occurred early in the piece, when even we weren't doing all we should correctly ... or they have resulted from that time period.

Australia is of course helped somewhat by its relative isolation from much of the rest of the world. But the most important thing was our politicians listening to and acting on the advice of the medical experts, and doing it in a fairly timely fashion.

You are probably on the money with that ... though to be fair, a good number of Americans know next to nothing about Australia, and I have heard that some don't even know where to find it on the map of the world, reputedly being that insular.
