blotunga: Since all clocks are am arbitrary convention i don't understand why we still use the sun as a reference and why it should be at 12 in the middle. We don't use sundials anymore. Sunrise imho should be around 8 am though that is also highly seasonal. But almost nobody starts work nowadays before 8-9am so it's wasted sunlight.
Because humans are diurnal creatures.

timppu: Wake up 3am, go to work e.g. around 4-5am, and get home 1-2pm, or whatever. There is no need to shift the clocks to achieve that, just move the official office hours from e.g. 9am-5pm to 6am-2pm.
I just can't see someone sending their kids to school at 5AM, meaning they need to be at the bus stop around 330-400, waking up closer to 3AM. Ever try to get a kid in bed on time, much less up on time?

If anything needs to change I really think it's this arbitrary moving of the hour hand, still haven't seen any positive reasons outside of more light=good.
I love the summertime (Daylight Saving Time) because it`s longer bright in the summer then and the sun doesn`t rise too early in the summer. Without DST the sunrise would be at 3:00 am and dusk would be at 9:00 pm. With DST the sun rises at 4:00 and dusk is at 10:00 pm, which is much better than without DST, especially if you are sitting in a Beergarden in the summer. :-)
