Bogart doesn't look very much like Sam Spade, who is described in the book as a large, physically imposing man and handsome in a blonde-haired "satanic" sort of way, but he has a great presence, and the movie follows the book as closely as possible. I think it's only missing one major scene from the novel.

Again, rather faithful take on the book. They merged a couple of characters and omitted some episodic sections that could be easily left out, but for the most part it gets the tone and feel of the book right. The only real nitpick I have is that the movie is somewhat understandably vague about why Blood is sentenced to slavery (he was a Catholic physician who treated a Protestant man during the Monmouth Rebellion), while the book is quite plain about it.

The entire scene with Bilbo and Gollum in the Hobbit. From what I remember it stayed pretty close to the book's version, minus some riddles perhaps.
