Breja: All of them.
I don’t like anime either. But I would not say that *all* should be skipped.
Here are a couple ones I enjoyed a lot despite my general dislike for the genre:
- Akira
- Avatar: The Last Airbender
- Cowboy Bebop (heavily recommended if you’re a Firefly fan)
- RWBY

JackWhite1328: My sister advised me to watch the anime "Diabolik Lovers". I tried to overpower myself, it seemed to me that after all, it could not be so bad, and the heroine would stop being so amoebic.
I have to ask, what does amoebic mean in this context?

How do you define "anime"?

I always assumed it was Japanese animation so RWBY and Avatar dont really fit even though they are drawn in that style. Heard alot of good things about Avatar as well.

Yeah Cowboy Bebop is quite great and is like Firefly. Quite great and again, only one season.

I do understand alot of people not liking anime because of the common shonen tropes but there is also quite a lot of anime that covers really serious issues that cant be done in live action.

Barefoot Gen is one, as is Grave of the Fireflies.

As someone who is not a regular anime watcher, I use it as a very broad genre that includes things like RWBY and Avatar. Because despite not coming from Japan I feel like they are strongly inspired by the classic anime, much more than by "Western" animation.

You could think of me as someone not listening to rock music, who would lump together hard rock and all sub-genres of metal in a very broad "metal" category ;)
(as a rock lover that would of course infuriate me, so I understand how anime lovers would be frustrated by my too broad and too quick categorization ;P)

This is obviously part of the reason for my dislike of the genre. Due to not watching a lot of anime, I mostly watched the very popular ones, that are quite standardized. And missed the lesser known that might cover more interesting topics.

In my limited knowledge, anime and shojo are very close concepts, even if I know of a couple other genres of anime (I live with a friend who watches a lot of anime, and not a single shojo).

Tokyo_Bunny_8990: A more interesting question may be what are some of the best manga/anime/jdrama stories and what are the best ways to experience them.

I do think Kingdom and Death Note should be through manga.
Kimetsu the anime (the manga is quite short and fast-paced so anime doesnt miss much and the animation is sharp).
Hana yori dango, the jdrama. The manga is a bit too long and has some unfortunate implications that the live action glosses over.
I saw this reasoning, so I decided to create an alternative. So that people in that chat can discuss the best, and here they can express their opinion about what they didn’t like, on the contrary.

This means that she allowed herself to be treated terribly, she did not like it at all, but she continued to endure. There was a moment when she found her father's notebook and heroically decided to stay to find out more, and her heroism ended there. Later in the anime, it was as if they forgot about her main mission, and in each episode the main theme was - sucking a heap of blood from a teenage girl without much development of events (locations and characters who are currently sucking blood could change slightly).

Hello Kitty vs Gundam
I challenge anyone to watch it and not wish for the wasted part of their life back.

That being said I don't think you can be called a fan of anime without at least watching this train wreck of little to no payoff based on a title that leads you to believe that it has entertainment value of the comic variety.

Watching "Monster" will surely change your mind.
